While never having won a world championship, nor become famous to our knowledge, However he is one of us and as such I still felt it appropriate to share some thoughts of Rod by those who did know him in some way. Here is one memory I have of him, feel free to add yours!

Work this year didn't allow our riding paths to cross again unfortunately, which is what saddened me. Also seeing how thin he had become, and believing his "Been in the gym" excuse!!!!! However, it reminded me of exactly what I loved about Rod. He had a passion for riding like few had. And when I say riding, I mean riding!! He could steer a bike a bit good!!!

The first time I remember meeting Rod was during a ride over the Reefton spur. The top was a little damp. Knowing the road well, and not being used to having a bike go past very often, I was both shocked and wrapped when he sailed past under brakes into a tightening radius right and then proceeded to gap me at every corner!! Awesome riding! As the road dried I caught up again and we played all the way back down the spur keeping each other honest and him most likely as me giggling away inside our lids as we did it! Once stopped at the bottom we swapped lies and had a laugh about some of the closer moves we initiated on each other. All well within both our comfort zones! The boy could really ride I shared a few more rides like this with Rod, all on his Z, but never made it our for a ride with his new Bussy bike!

Sad indeed. On the other hand it's good to know he lived his life to the fullest.

Still remember his old signature "the ghost rider"...

i didnt meet him, but he Rode a bike, it was a kwak and it was a Z, enough said from me

probably a good thing i never had to back my mouth up on a ride with him!!

never met him..chatted and bantered in here with him..and i feel kinda sad...its like lossing a family member .......

so for all of those of u who can make it ... im with u all in spirit!

Mate, what a loss, it's just not fair, but Im sure he had a good time, even if not as long a time as he would have liked.

I've given quite a bit of thought to this recently, and just wanted to say three great big cheers to Rod's mate who took the wrap for him when he was due to loose his license recently ... what a champion. Ride long Rod!
