Just thought I would let you all in on my little mishap this morning. It's nothing serious just a very sore arm, shoulder, ribs and ego.
Was just leaving for work and going down my street, got to the corner maybe a little too fast and realized there were a couple of cars coming and accidently grabbed the front brakes a little too hard and probably because it was a bit dewy and on a tiny downhill the front wheel went out from under me and down I went, nothing spectacular very unco.
The funny thing was I watched both cars just keep going. I know it wasn't their fault but i thought they would've at least stopped to see if I was alright.
Anyway the only damage to the bike is a broken brake lever, broken indicator and a couple of scratches on the mirror, footpegs and right exhaust. BUT the worst thing is it's not my bike, it's my mates ZZR250. He's lending it to me for a little while cause I sold my car and haven't had time to get my bike on the road.

Luckily he hadn't put the new fairings on yet.
Anyway at least it wasn't a really bad accident it just shook me up a little as it is my first off i've had and hopefully the last

.

Glad to hear you are OK mate.
Yeah, I am a bit worried about my first prang (When it comes), but will just try to ride as best as I can, and stay relaxed and vigilant......
Ah well, a mirror and lever will not cost the earth, and if new fairings are going on, then all should be well !!
Ride Safe .....

It's the time of the year for little offs, what with the roads being a little bit damp and cold.
Looking on the bright side, it was only a ZZR250.

Yep the main thing is i'm alright. I went to the doctors to get me shoulder checked out and for a certificate for work. He said it's not too bad but shoulders take a while to get back to normal (about 6-8 weeks) and that if pain persists that I should go to a physio. Will be going to one anyway.
Told me mate and I know he's a very good mate cause he was more concerned about me than his bike..........or maybe he was just putting on a show

. Anyway he knows I will fix it. I have already ordered a new brake lever and I will be spray painting it when I get the chance. I had already offered my spray painting service when he came off on a ride so now I have even more reason to do it.
Thanks for the sympathy peoples, I will be extra careful now and hopefully it will make me a better rider.

It seems like a fine difference, but you should treat all intersections as "need to stop, go when I can see it's clear" as opposed to "need to go, stop if I see something coming"
There is then no need to suddenly grab for the brakes, as you've already assumed something is coming. You shoudl talk your way through things like this until it becomes automatic: "downhill intersection, road looks damp, take it easy and slow down, clear to go". It seems really gay at first but you end up doing it in your head without even realising. This helps you recognise threats at the roadside: "clear road, 4WD parked with doors open, might be kids there, slow to be safe"

valid point shifty...
i do this myself (as im sure most of us do) but i guess we forget to remind our newer riding mates...
u have no protection on a bike (like in a cage)..so NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING!!! (it makes an ASS out of U and ME) ..should always prepare to stopwhen approaching an intersection (even if u have right of way) just in case...

Thats some good advice. I almost had an off the other night coming hmoe from work, it was on that bitumen that loks smooth and slippery...and yep it is slippery. the rear brake locked up and I fish tailed a bit but kept even pressure of front brake lifted the right foot off and took the corner REALLY wide. Scared the shite out of me though.
Funny thing was the next day I was called to a bike accident, some guy put his across down and slid it under a stopped car in front of him. He broke his right indicator, brake lever, brake pedal, and snapped off the right foot peg, aswell as some scraping of the fairing. he was lucky he only took some bark off his hand. (No gloves)
