Apparently the Captain was warned to move away from the coast before the storm started, but refused ??

i think it has more to do with the lack of "tanker foam"

I heard on the wireless that the anchored buoys measured the waves at 17m and that the winds were upgraded from gale to storm, this is a big flat bottomed ship that has 7000 tonnes of fuel onboard but was travelling with water ballast so it can be hauled off after its been pumped out with a bit of luck, three tugs are going to try and pull it out to sea soon, there is a rupture to the outer but not the inner hull, rather than take the fuel off they're going to shift it around the tanks as part of the refloat attempt, well that's what they said,we'll see what happens I'm sure.

Ah it gives the beach character, what would Rainbow beach be without the 'Cherry Venture'?

Gilligan and the Professor told me:
he went on coz he didnt have ballast on. He was empty of oggin ready to take on his load of coal. When they are MT of cargo they pump in seawater to maintain the ships seagoing capabilities: the whole propellor in the water and less ship in the air. He didnt anticipate the weather
didnt add ballast and couldnt keep his big sticky uppy ship with shit propulsion off the beach. They added ballast post grounding to settle her.
Shes a coal carrier the fuel issue is just wally's turning it into Exxon Valdez in Newcastle.
