The Caltex website states it is a high density fuel with RON of 98 whereas the stock standard Vortex has a RON of 95, so am assuming it will be like optimax!! sorry dont wish to spark the fuel debate, it is only in NSW at the moment so any you sydney boys used it?

crapymax is a fuel in its own class, crapymax is a by weight fuel, Vortex is still a by volume fuel.
I use vortex and the mobil high octane in all my bikes they run fine, the 636 also runs fine on crapymax to but coz i'm a tight ass i wont pay the extra for it.

We get Vortex as far as I'm aware..

Most Premium is only 95..

Vortex and Synergy 8000 are 98 octane..

With the cost of fuel atm, I'm half tempted to go to Normal Unleaded... Never put it in the ZX6, so no idea whether I will lose much performance.

Not such a good idea Dan.
If you look at the sticker on your fuel tank it indicates to use fuel with a RON greater than 94 (could be 95).
Standard unleaded has a RON of 91.
Our bikes have a tank capacity of 17 litres, 'premium' fuel costs upto 9 cents/litre more than standard unleaded. It will only cost you an extra $1.53 (17 x $0.09) when filling with Premium fuel. I believe the extra cost outweighs the potential harm it could cause to your bike.
I have been told that not using the correct octane rated fuel can cause damage. (I am unsure of what damage, but I don't want to take the risk)

I personally wouldn't use standard unleaded when the manufacture states fuel rating above 94 (or 95).

I have put ULP in mine when they had no Prem ULP so mixed it with what was in the tank.
To be honest I noticed no Differance
But I always use the 98 Ron where I can

yeah 98 is my pref, but the nearoest mobile is shut, and the caltex and BP's are all 95 octane premium..

I ran 98 at the track day, and abit of booster on top of that...

This is always an interesting debate, my other ride is an Audi A4 turbo Quattro, and Audi Australia only recommend one fuel by brand and that is Shell Optimax. Now I know the engines are somewhat mechanically different, but interesting that was warned off the fuel for my 636....what could be so different? Both fuel injected, both high performance engines....? both new technology...?

as i said above Graham my 636 loves crappymax and runs on it without an issue, but also it is the first bike i've owned to do so. I also ride with a few VFR's, GSX1400, CBR1100 and a few Hayabussa's that also only use crapymax.
The idea with crapymax is your suppose to have carbon sensors and exhaust sensors for the fuel to be effective, naturally bikes dont have all the bells and whistles in that dept so technically Optimax should not burn as well therefore clogging up your engine.
All mechanics i have come across now state as a standard responce not to use Optimax, on new sports bikes '04 and '05 is'nt an issue older bikes i would be wary

BP Ulitmate, 98 RON is the go. I dont use anything else, except if in emergency which thankfully hasnt happened yet.

I try to use BP ultimate when and where I can....

Haven't put Shell in my bike for as long as I can remember.

I like to go the BP Ultimate, or Mobil Synergy 8000.

But I usually end up with crappymax, as the servo is on both sides of sydney road on my way home..

I suggest you not use Crappymax in the GPx...
I did and it pharkked a set of plugs totally.....
got 10k's up the road after the fill and the bike spluttered&stopped
but
the ol' girl is happy on Mobil 8000 or BP Premium (or Ultimate)
I too am a tightarse and use the BP Premium in deference to the Ultimate
or I use JET who sell Mobil fuels ...cheap

If us backward Qld'ers ever get Vortex 98 might give it a whirl if its on the same par as Ultimate. All we have is the 95 RON Vortex.

nah i would'nt use crappymax in the GPX smitty, i only use that in my 636 on the days i can get my missus of it
