I don't like Murray Sayle. He isn't much of an ambassador for Kawasaki if you have to have a warranty claim with him. I don't care if he raced when I was a kid or before I was born, now he is.....

He's the unpleasant man that is in charge of Kawasaki warranty. Two months of to-and fro emails to get a $150 repair done to my ZZR. Visted local dealer three times and they agreed it was a warranty issue. Sent several sets of photos. Must been ten emails and pages and pages of description and explanation of a basic fault in the bike. Also charged me for oil, filter and coolant for warranty cam change- wouldn't cover these costs under warranty. Woulda been quicker with less agro to pay for it myself- why should I though on a new-under-warranty bike.
He is the main reason I'm not interested in buying another new Kawasaki again, and partly why I don't like the ZZR much. I know I'm not the only person he's pissed off. Three Kawasaki dealers have told me that he is difficult and will do anything to back out of warranty claims.

that explains it. I have never done any warranty claims, so haven't had the experience of dealing with the Warranty department of Big K....
I know he was a hell of a racer in his day.........one of the TKA riders back in the 70's with Gregg Hansford........

Hansford was a gentleman at least. Did I tell you that my mate with the H2 owns a tank dented by Hansford at Bathurst- apparently he dropped the bike, denting the tank. My mate won't repaint it- leaves it the way it is. No proof but a good story. I've ridden that bike about 20 metres. Love at first sight!

That is sad, considering ZZR/ZRX 1100 & especially 1200 cams, are widely known to fail due to soft cam lobes, usually #4 & then #3 inlet lobes

. They/You should change rockers as well, at least on the damaged lobes.
I have heard of them being replaced by Kawasaki even out of warranty.
Mine was 3 1/2yrs old when I found them, so I did not try for warranty .
What lobes failed on yours, did you have service records? Assuming this is how your cams failed.

Not sure but I seem to remember exhaust cam #3 and 4 and can't remember where on the inlet cam. Bike has been serviced to the letter and then some.

Did they replace the damaged rockers? The ZZR runs a higher quality rocker than the ZRX.
New genuine ZZR 1200 cam's were quoted to me @ around $900 ea local dealer

.
I sourced them from the U.S. for $865 Aussie, landed on my doorstep, for the pair

. They sure ENHANCE the ZRX

Glad I only found my cams were f--ked because I was removing them to fit the ZZR items

.

I have also found that dealers are more inclined to sideline you because of the rigmoral of trying to get things done under warranty, i have had no luck trying to get the tapping sound out of my ZZR600 and i will never buy another kawa
