Hey guys,
Just orghanising quotes for insurance with these two company's, i had my R6 insured with QBE last year because shannons wouldnt take me because of limited experience. This year with the 636 im eligble but QBE want to beat their price.
The dealer is pushing QBE as he reckons its a superior product but i think they just get some kind of bonus for signing people up with them. Just want to know what you all think of Shannons and if i should go with their limited use policy.
The thing that i like is i only ride 2-3 days a week and shannons will cover me for 'commuting' to work under this policy, QBE wont under their limited use policy. The dealer said he can get a better price for me under their full use policy and i will be covered for all commuting and can ride as much as i want.
Just after opinoins,
Thanks!

shannons cover you for rider training days. eg California superbike school.
not a lot of others will.
i have no idea if QBE do.
that might not be important to you either. just something to consider.

comes down to how much you ride, I commute every day so shannons is out for me, when I had an aprillia I didn't commute but they were considering turning me down becuase I rode more than 8000k a year.
Shannons were quite good to deal with (in my experience) and you could pay quarterly at no extra charge, but next summer if you feel like commuting more often on the bike, you can't
I'm using swann at the moment, but qbe had much the same deal and no restriction on km or type of riding. Neither of these guys will cover you for rider training which is not on the road though.
Cheers
Matt

i estimate i do about 6k a year, but ill probably start riding more now i have the kwaka, matbe8-10k a year. it all depends on the weather, if its raining ill take the car, if its a nice day out ill ride so the bike isnt my main form of transport, then ill maybe do a night ride or weekend ride once every two weeks.
I have done a few track days and plan to do more but niether cover me for track use so thats out, wouldnt mind doing a circuit breakers day or something like that which i believe shannons cover?
other things to mention, shannons replace the bike if written off in 1 yr, QBE give you 2 yrs. also shannons cover 3k of gear, qbe is 4k.
Has anyone made a claim with each company? i have friends that have claimed against QBE, all got payed out EVENTUALLY, some said they experience was hasstle free, the other said it was a nightmare

I'm with Shannons and they have been fine. There price was about the best and when I made a claim the service was good.
As mine is up for renewal I did a check and it seems e-bike insurance are the cheapest for me atm...

any company with an e-/.com/r-us in their name i tend to stay away from lol, i like to be insured by the bigger companys, false sence of security and all

I'm with QBE, Shannon’s wouldn't touch me as I ride everyday - apparently this does not make me a motoring enthusiast
What I like about QBE is that they now cover all your kit; the best any other company would do is RACV who would cover the helmet up to $200. I like the idea of ride day cover, but I don’t think QBE cover that.

I am with Shannons
why?
they cover -
yr gear (for lots for rider and pillion)
bikes with mods (most won't even touch you if modded)
track/ride days
agreed value (yep they insure ya bling)
monthly payments (at no xtra cost)
multi vehicle discount (they are cheap with performance cars..like mine)
I used to be with Swann
and they were really good too
but the 'multi vehicle' discount with Shannons
was the reason I moved (and i saved around $600)
..gotta be happy with that

currently with shannon's myself as well, so is my missus for her GSXR.. and she's lumped her bike, car, house and contents everything etc onto the same policy (as well as my bike) and it worked out to be about 850 per bike which i think is pretty good.
qbe didnt go as low - i think they wanted around 1200 or something stupid.. but come renewal time i'll be shopping around and checking out e-bike etc etc to see if they can do better as i'm not paying a higher premium for each year the bike gets older!

You really need to get the booklets for the two policies you are being offered, and compare them.
As for the "bonus" you refer to, if the dealer is actually arranging the insurance then they must (legally) be an Agent of the insurer and therefore highly likely be be receiving a commission of between 10% and 25%. They will therefore try to sell it to you by hilighting its good points or generally bagging any other option.
They're not legally allowed to make a comparison between products, they are only allowed to give you factual information about their policy and/or answer your direct questions about that product.
That said what they're selling you MIGHT be the best product for your needs but they can't decide that, you have to. Get a copy of the booklets (they legally have to give to you on request or at the latest when cover starts, and then give you a 'cooling off' period if you are unhappy with the cover) and compare them.

i went with AAMI, can't stand Shannon's and don't think i'll ever go with them due to them not insuring my car or bike when ive asked for some reason or another. enthusiasts my a$$.
though covering track days is enough to possibly ring them again.
about 700 per year for my 98 9 and insured for about 9k too.

my only advice would be to get an agreed value rather than market value with whoever you get the policy with.
far to many stories of people getting ripped on the "market value" policy
