After a shocker of a track day yesterday, I have come to the conclusion my 7 needs the wiring sorted.
There appears to be numerous problems that I keep chasing all to no avail. Fix one and another appears.
Yesterday, just before the first session, the battery went flat and I had to jump start the bike, then it wouldn't run clean for the first couple of sessions. After about 2 laps, it wouldn't run at all.
I pulled it apart replaced all the plugs and checked all the wiring, put it back together (had the battery on the charger) and it seemed to run OK. Went out to do a few laps and it blows the fuse to the ignition.
Push it back, check it out (nothing obvious) and replace the fuse. The bike starts up runs Ok, head out to the track, exit pit lane, get on the gas out of turn one and POP, the fuse blows again.... I sit in the middle of the track for 15 minutes waiting for the session to end, then push the bike back to the pits, onto the trailer and take it home.!

maybe a battery fault ?

possibly ..but imho unlikely

Dave
popping the main fuse can mean an internal
alternator fault ( I assume yr bike still has it)

and if its just the ignition fuse
I would be checking out the wiring running
around the headstem and to the switches on the
bars

hth

cheers

Thats no good mate sounds like a real sucky day!
Give mick a call at CHM & see what he thinks about a rewire, carbie bikes should be straight forward, Steve Cutting from motorcycle weaponry has done our outfit & made it look simple.
Spose the first step is to suss that battery as Mario said

I would get the manual out and do few troubleshooting.

- Alternator resistance should be 0.9 ish ohms (all three phases)

- Alternator output should be 40ish volts AC (all three phases)

These are quite easy to do, just removal of seat and a wire connection.

... etc.

Barring a short somewhere that you didn't find, it could also be your regulator/rectifier.

I thought 14 volts DC? though i don't know about the phases.

the alternator ouput is AC, and the rectifier changes this output to DC voltage(around 14v) for the battery and electrical system.

MK - how much of the original wiring harness is left ? I can't remember if there were any handlebar switches on it or not......

I would start with any dodgy taped-up wiring first, for any shorts that could be causing the fuse to blow - then check rec/reg, and battery. Then onto alternator output, to make sure its putting out enough neddies.

thats a start anyway......good luck mate.

There's stuff all of the original harness left. The wiring is pretty rough especially to and around the igniter box. The guy really hacked this up and I had to re wire the whole area. I thought I had it sorted, until Wednesday.
Frank and his mate Shane have all the gear so there coming over to check it out with me on Sunday.
Thanks for all the tips guys, we'll be looking into all of em.!
