Not very often during the day - really only if the conditions are such that I think I need all the help I can get  I wouldn't expect it to piss oncoming traffic off too much during daylight hours .... but doing it an night is just a c$%^ act.

bike headlights arent really that bright in the day, but i know a few who do, if you ride an newer 9 or a 12 you dont need to coz your lights are high and bright anyway,

but most of the twin light bikes, that only use one on lowbeam, it makes a huge difference for the better!! :)

especially from yoru mirrors, you see them instantly

I have mine on high - so if the little blue light on the dash isn't on, that tells me I have forgotten to turn the lights on.

Some interesting points being made here but one question is what about the extra draw of current from your battery, is there enough charge from the alternator to cope with high beam all the time? :?

if your in stop start traffic for a while you might cop battery drain, other than that from about 2500-3500rpm onwards the altenator should be carrying the weight.

the bike looks hot but oh the lights look shit when on low beam

I do it sometimes - only when people appear to be acting more stupid that normal.
Dunno that it helps any regarding oncomers, but people going my direction certainly notice me being near them more when high beam is on.
Seems to grab their attention sooner and they get out of the way.

I hate it. Sometimes they are bright enough to be annoying even on a sunny day, just like those fucking VX Commodore foglights.
