Greetings,

Jacket zippers are giving me grief at the moment.

I have a Rivet freeway jacket and the large tooth front zipper has broken on it, this is the third zipper in as many years.

Anyone know where I might purchase a good quality zipper, I am thinking maybe a wetsuit style zipper???

The other little ones on the sleeve have gone bung and also on my tail bag, arrghhhh!!

Regards,
JB

I've always used bootmakers for leather/zipper probs. try to find a good 1 in your area recommended.

Are they plastic or metal zips? Any zip problems I have encountered have been plastic zips. I have replacede with metal zips and hod no problems since.

Yep, the sucker is a plastic zip, will look into a metal tooth model.

try Spotlight. They do a good YKK zip, I have used it on other jackets, its plastic but its good quality, and big enough to do the job. They also do metal zips.

YKK is the brand you want.......finding a supplier for those really big wetsuit zippers is hard.........

no worries - they have a *huge* selection of zips, you'll be looking for a 65cm open-ended jacket zip, in black .... . I am fairly sure they are YKK zips, but even if they are another brand, the big open-teeth plastic zips they sell will do the job.

Hi,

Thanks, I found the zipper you speak of however have not purchased as yet because the next painful problem with these zippers is to find someone with the skill, machinery and who does not want your first born in payment for two rows of stitching. Don't even bother going to Mr Minit for a zipper repair, yikes$$$$$

I am checking out a canvas repair mob who will probably have the equipment necessary, will let you know.

Interesting that my enquiries to Rivet go unanswered, no after sales service there!!!!

The tail bag zipper is just as bad and it too is a Rivet brand bag, I am going to stay clear of Rivet products in future.

JB

Hi WeekendWarrior,

Try sailmaker or an awning manufacturer, they should be able to sew it in for you.

Cheers,
Pete

Just watch ur fingers with the metal zips. Careless zipping on my jacket has cut my fingers more times than I care to mention. :P

But they are tough. Can get a little stiff when it rains, but just rub soap on them and they come up apples. :D
