Its just because they dont change the names.
Z1000s, ZX10s,GSXRs,CBRs have all been around since the 70s and 80s.
Thats just the way some cagers and old timers see it.

15 years ago takes up back to '92, so the Fairyblade 900 was the tool of the day. How does that compare to a 2007, 170bph 1000cc bike that weighs 175Kg?
It is true most bikes since then have run some form of twin spar Alloy frame, 16valve, DOHC, 12:1 compression ratio, rubber tyres and disc brakes front and rear... struggling now!
