Registration Comparisons

As per Yoda's thread
here, and some of the comments regarding rego costs, I will kick things off with a *current* rego renewal costing for the land of Capital Punishment......
If you are able to add *current* details of rego costs (for renewals only at this stage), that would be great. Try to keep it to 'actual' costs, not *I think this is what it cost me last year* estimates. If your green slip varies depending on insurer, then just include *your* costs, who knows it might create some competition out there in CTP land....
Then we can have a handy comparison of current rego costs across all States (and Territories

). Don't forget to specify your engine capacity as well, I know there are different costs for different engine capacities here.............
OK, the MFP12 is up for renewal on 11 May 2007. 1200cc - Costs as follows:
Private Registration : $80.00
CTP Premium : $356.90
Road Rescue Fee : $16.00
Road Safety Contribution : $2.00
TOTAL COSTS FOR 12 MONTHS RENEWAL : $454.90
Road Rescue Fee / Road Safety contribution are ACT-specific bullshit.....
If I only wanted 6 months rego renewal, it would total $253.20, and 3 months only would total $139.45. You basically pay an additional $25 admin charge for the lesser periods, the 4 other costs are reduced proportionally.
How does this compare with the rest of you ?
ACT - >600cc -
$454.90 p.a
TAS - >125cc -
$491.65 p.a
QLD - Single seat -
$197.50 p.a
QLD - Dual seat -
$356.90 p.a
SA - > 660cc -
$413.00 p.a
SA - 251-659cc -
$358.00 p.a
VIC - >1000cc -
$501.20 p.a

Shit thats cheap

no wonder so many people do dodgy single seat conversions up there
Whats the damage for 'normal' rego, that would be a more appropriate comparison for the other regions, none of whom have a single seat category....

Tas bike rego (renewal 12 mths) is as follows:
Registration Fee . $55.65
Motor Tax .......... $15.00
MAIB Premium ... $421.00
Total = $491.65 for all bikes greater than 125cc. Anything less than 125cc attracts a MAIB premium of $172
We get the choice of 6 or 12 months. From memory I think its half plus $20ish. We only have 3-6-12 on heavy vehicles.

thats cool - its the compulsory 3rd party insurance component of rego, here in ACT we have a monopoly (great

) with NRMA. Similiar to your system by the looks....In other states afaik you have a choice of 3rd party or 'greenslip', 'pinkslip' etc insurance companies.
What really gets up my nose is that here in ACT, we pay through the nose for CTP, yet have *far* less road trauma/deaths etc than any other state or territory..........its a bloody joke when CTP costs 4 times as much here as in Qld say, when they have far more road trauma and deaths...........yeh yeh I know its all about population etc, but it still shits me !!
Keep the comparisons rolling.......

We are getting jibbed in NSW, we pay the most for rego, we pay tolls on the motorways, we have the most congested roads in Aust, we pay the most Taxes....yada,yada,yada..
Not Happy Jan !!

I do remember we used to have that in the seventies.

Back when getting your rego meant a trip to transport, take the paper to insurance, then take the insurance paper back to transport to get your rego. Makes the current one stop shop look good, monopoly and all.
