well i definitely don't really live up to that as I am pretty hopeless @ DIY.... but regardless I have decided that my 95 ZX6R Track bike needed to be turned from red to green......sooooo..... I decided to grab some paint and stuff the other day, and this afternoon.... started the prep work......

I have almost got the lower fairing ready for some bog to smooth out a couple of shallow surface imperfections.... and then tomorrow I should be able to dedicate most of the day to sanding and prepping the remaining fairing pieces.... and then hopefully.... I will have enough time to lay down the primer etc tomorrow arvo or the following day......

anyways, I will be documenting the process through images and will post them up either as I go or at the end...... :)

I think I will get sick of sanding very quickly!

***EDIT***
Officially getting very sick of sanding! Must keep going.....anyways here are some pix to let you know how I am going.... I am finding that my plan of dedicating the whole day to the task is going no where! Bloody family gets in the way ;) So I didn't get on the job until pretty late in the arvo today..... see how I go tomorrow !

***edit 2***
well, thought i would add another pic.... you can see i have had a half assed attempt at rubbing a bit of the undercoat back..... but today, all i did was a little bog work.... and a bit of fibreglass reinforcing again..... well until tomorrow!

***edit 3***

Well I decided that it was time to lay the colour down... and have thought stuff it when it comes to fixing up all the blemishes.... as the glass is not in quite as good a nick as I had thought..... I should get my sandblasted tank back tomorrow... then it is off to problemchild's to finish the job... as I nearly killed myself today...... I built a dodgy spray booth with plastic drop sheets around a gazebo frame.... stopped the wind well.. but the fumes were like death! Anyways.... this is the first coat of colour.... not rubbed back or anything!

***edit 4***

Well. the colour and clear is down! nbr boards done.... just needs to be rubbed back with some 2000grit W&D in a couple of days then buffed up..... although the tank is yet to be done as it is still off with the sand blaster.... although ProblemChild is going to be an absolute legend and spray it on weds for me :D Overall I am bloody happy with the way it came out, and would like to say a big thanks to PC for all his advice and help! Anyway..... enjoy the pix in in my 3rd post in this thread!

mate ur not meant to use the sandpaper on ya knob...

sure the friction feels nice, but then if u actually try to clean ya knob in the shower, the kero stings it...

well... my first real learning curve happened today...... I got lazy, and thought that paint stripper would be a great idea to do that metal tank..... well now it is going to be sandblasted!

righto.... no pix yet... you'll have to wait until tomorrow as I need a nap before night shift now!

But I have hit a layer of primer onto the fairings now... came up decent enough... although it was a bit thicker to spray than the paint! it has highlighted a couple of areas which will need more attention......

Oh and I discovered I am an absolute bog numpty! How the hell do you get that shit down somewhat smooth? I envisage having the bike finished by monday afternoon... as I am on nights for the next four nights..... all depends on the weather though!

You don't - its a 'lay it on thick' arrangement, and file it down to the correct level - you need to make sure that the overall level of the bog is higher than the surrounding surfaces, by a good 3-4mm....then file/sand it back to the correct height........

Don't worry if its not dead smooth first time around.......and use a plastic kitchen spatula to apply, it works *great*....
