Hi Guys/Gals,
found a Dianese back protector today in a shop which normally retails for $229 but the guy said he would do it $180.
I knew him perosnally.
What I wanna know is who wears them and when?
Am I a tosser for gettin one if i dont race track ride?
here it is:
http://www.bikebiz.com.au/enter.html?lmd=39149.706609
go to road apparel/protection/dianese/
its the Dainese Space S Back Protector
Casual riding or only touring trips?
I have considered doing a long trip and wanna add some more safety so i considered a back protector.
Ideas and advice please.

Looks like you got yourself a bargain
you wont feel like a tosser when it saves you from breaking your back
breaking your back really really hurts.
i have one of those alpinestars back protector inserts that goes in your jacket.
its not as good as a proper back protector but it is better than nothing and its there all the time
if i had a proper back protector i reckon i would use it on any ride that wasnt just up the road kind of thing. i wear gear everywhere but i dont tend to do much round town riding so i dont really feel the need to squid.
my next gear purchase will be a proper back protector
so my advice is to wear the thing as much as you can stand when out on the bike.

Since when does wearing protective gear make you a tosser.
I have a dianese one and i love it. Very comfortable.

I had a Dainese back protector, and wore it every time out.
I've just bought one
of these to replace it with.
If you suck ya guts in when you do it up you look slimmer too..

I've got a Dianese Wave II back protector and wear it whenever I'm on my bike. I injured my back in a prang last year and was airlifted to hospital - had I been wearing a back protector I'd probably have been pillioned home
I originally bought a $99 RJays one, and would still use it except some low-life pinched it and gave me an excuse to get a new one - the new one's even better, super comfy and feels like it'd do a great job in a get-off.

I've got a mate with a nice section of titanium in his spine from a crash, and he wears a back protector everywhere now...they aren't a bad idea for the road

Noone in their right mind will hang it on you for wearing MORE safety gear, fairly sure most of us realise that motorcycling CAN be hazardous, anything that reduces the hazard without reducing the fun is well worthwhile.

Hell no. Buy it and wear it everywhere if you like. I don't think anyone is going to think you are a tosser if you wear a back protector, heaps of people wear them for normal road-riding these days.

Yep good idea especially on weekend rides in the hills, if you suddenly get spat off and back first into a gutter or tree root whatever you will be better off with one of those.

I have a Dainese protector as well, they are quality kit.
Anything that protects you should not classify you as a tosser but wearing replica leathers and helmets is getting close.
If you definatly want to be called a tosser get custom designed leathers and were them on the street like i do.

Mate,
who gives a flying f**k what other people think ?
I personally will hang shit on you for riding without one !
I still have pain from an off in 1977 where I damaged my back but in them days m/c protection was denims and a leather jacket.
At that price see if he has anymore
