Gday!! very much a newbie here.

Just after some advice on getting my first bike. I am about 6'1" tall and 90kg and want a sports / Sports tourer style bike available on restrictions. I have sat on a mates CBR250 and felt really cramped and I thought a ZX2R would be a similar size. I was thinking of a ZZR250, are they much bigger? Or something else in this style...I prefer Kwakas of course.

Mate i think with your height any two fidy is goin to be cramped. Saying that, a zzr or gpx might be ya best bet. Go to your nearest bike dealer & sit on a few diferent models to help make up ya mind on what feels comfortable.
Im 6'3 and anything is cramped for me.

The ZXR250 (there's no such thing as a ZX2R, regardless of what the stickers on a custom-sprayed fairing claim) is a fair bit roomier than a BabyBlade.

At 6'1", which works out to, what, 185 or 186cm, you've got a bit of growing left to do to catch me at 194cm, and I started out on a ZXR250 without it ever being a real problem. Sure, you're all bent over with your knees clashing with your elbows and vice versa, but they all do that, Sir. That's just how a sports riding position is and it's pretty much how it needs to be for it to work. When you sit on a bigger sportsbike, you'll find that you're pretty much just as bent over and just as bunched up; there'll just be more tank between your knees and you'll be higher up off the ground.

Try sitting on a sportsbike again and take note of whether you're actually cramped, with bloodflow to places being cut off, or whether you're just thinking, "Hmmm, I haven't tried this position before."

The CB250F (Honda Hornet) is a big bike for a 250!
Look at the VTR250 as well.

Nah not too keen on a naked...I would go a chook chaser tho maybe a klx250 or 400 but the 400 is hard to find and apparently the 250 is underpowered. Just saw a KDX250 enduro apparently the early 90s varients werent too bad. I am going to be doing a bit of freeway riding on it, and was looking for a sports tourer for this reason, plus aesthetics.

If you dont want a naked then the Spewzi GS500 comes with a fairing...

definitely a KLR650.

Tall, Big, Bit of grunt (more than a 250 sporty), 23 litre tank (450 - 500K range), great through town, and you can put road tyres on it. You can learn good skills on a big trailie.

Go and sit on one, you'll love it.

I'm about 6'1" and the GPX was fine at first... but I'm tired of people coming up to me and telling me I need a bigger bike.

Ok no worries. I'll try to find one and have a sit. Theres not many available in my town unfortunately. I still may go a zzr as they are a bit cheaper and the hand brake is pulling on the purse strings. (Only cos she just bought a horse!!! )

Hey Mate, I'm 6'1 and about the same weight as you... I went though this only 4 months ago and I found one thing: There are very few LAMs approved bikes that don't end up making guys like us look like a gorilla on a tricycle in a circus...

I found two bikes in the end; the GS500 and the ER-5. Obviously I ended up going the ER... I'd suggest taking a close look at both, def the GS if you want a fairing. Tho RedDave is right, it does look like a bit of an after-thought.

Anyway, good luck with it. It's a bastard of a job trying to find something you like in that LAMs class when you're not built like your average Japanese citizen

umm LAMS...maybe the new hyosung 650?? cheap and brand new...or a suzi sv650 is that LAMS??

otherwise id say a ER.... they have a half faired version..
