Hot Bike!!

When im commuting on my bike (06 636) for anything longer than about half an hour i notice that the frame of my bike absorbs all the heat from the engine caused by sitting at the lights and such. This becomes a problem when it starts to burn the crap out of your knees which are sitting on the frame. Doesnt seem to be a problem wen just cruising at speed. Has anyone found a way to get around this???

Dear Ozten,

When I first got into bikes, I used to have the same issues. Once, I even burnt my nose! Yeah, I was combing my hair before I went into the dance party in the reflection of my highly polished end can, and got a bit too close! However now, I just use the following method to avoid burning my legs.

As I approach gridlocked traffic, I carefully assess which lane is going to be the clearest. I like the emergency lane up the left as it gives me maximum opportunity to have the cars notice me once I have gone past. Once deciding which lane will be best, I smoothly and carefully place my right foot on the pillion seat, and then snap it on for a stand up. If you time it perfectly you are usually picking it up as you pass the first car. Always ensure you use your right leg, as you may hit a mirror or be able to speed up or slow down. If timed well, you can slow it down and continue through the red traffic permitting while still on the rear wheel. The view is very commanding so you see for miles, plus the ventilation with such a big gap between the bike and your leg ensures your knads don't roast along with your leg.

For more spread out traffic always use the no footer, as it is far more speccie and still provides adaquate ventilation.

Let me know how this works for ya!

Put a manual switch on your thermo-fan. That way you can turn the fan on whenever you like, to keep engine temps from getting too hot.

Strika !!  nice work - but.....PICS or it didn't happen !!
