When I log on to KSRC every day or so, I see a page or two of new topics- maybe 50 topics or so. Then I look at the first one that interests me, use the back button, then only a couple of new posts are visible- all the others disappear. Gives me the shits- why can't it happen on a crappo site like... but not here! Anyone got an idea why? Ta....

"She", eh?

No wonder we don't see you anymore

Umm...Windows 98 is, well, crap. No really. It is. And you are on dial up aren't you?

I suspect that the connection is timing out before it loads the full page. Used to happen all the time when I lived in the sticks...

Uhm yeah Felix. Actually it might be the crappo dial-up modem I installed lately, and the crappo ISP- dodo. getting pretty slow connection speeds- 115000 bps or so. Using my dodo connection over here and it works better on the more modern puter too. :)

Yeah, the TCP/IP stack is much improved in XP to 98...and it frequently results in better, more stable connections.

Best modems, if you can find anyone that sells them, is Swann...I only got rid of mine when lightning blew the inside of it apart! Always got the best connections out of that. USB modems (which I am guessing you have) tend to work poorly on 98.

On a side note, my last work used to buy secondhand computers from Grays Auctions out near Archerfield somewhere...paid something like $120 for a Pentium 4 1.8Ghz with 256Mb, and a licenced version of XP...

id honestly say the biggest reason was dodo itself. They have an inline (i.e. invisible) proxy cache that all http requests are automatically sent through. As it seems to be set up rather agressively it does tend to screw with things like this, which is a p.i.t.a.

you can try something like firefox, but the best fix would be an isp who doesn't use a badly done & annoying cgi of an extinct bird as its logo.

And an ADSL cnnection wouldn't hurt either, dial up is like 20th century stuff :D
