I need help!

How much would you pay for...

A 94 ZZR250... 40 000 k's... Body is excellent...

The only problem is - it hasnt been started in over 3 years....

It was running perfectly, parked under the house oneday, covered in a tarp and has sat there for three years... wheeled around occassionally to move it out of the way...

Any suggestions would be a great help!

I'd aim for the lower end of the range, you may need to buy tyres (they may have hardened and become brittle). You may also need to drain and clean out the fuel tank, drain the float bowls on the carbies and change the oil (three years of unuse and it may have become a bit chunky).

May as well factor in a coolant system flush and a new battery as well...

coz apart from the spiders..the tank can be gunked
up and the engine/trans innards rusted
I would also suggest the tyres could do with replacing

and as for the battery..its gotta be dead or close to it

factor in repair costs..you will spend some $ to get it going
and on the road (don't forget rego )

Do you know this person? Can you drain the fuel out of the tank. Put fresh fuel in it and try to kick it over. The battery might need a charge too. If she goes , listen for any engine noises. Bike will need to be Blue slipped to, cause its been outta rego for a while.

If all goes well start with a low price , can only go up from there. Its totally up to you in the end. Look in the trading post or other bike shops to see what there prices are. Dont forget its been sittin around for a while..Sounds like money needs to be spent on it, keep that in mind.

maybe they should throw in a carton of beer for you too.

seriously though i reckon around 1000 - 1500 simply cause its a 13 year old bike with possible problems from not being used and it has a heap of ks on it.

is it rego'd? if not that could be a pain cause you will need to get a blue slip.

I know both parties and both of them are unsure as to what the value of the bike might be... so I thought I would ask around...

The bike is out of rego and has been for a while now, and will def. need some $ spent on it...

So when are you getting yourself that ZX7 then Kel?

as smitty said, things that will need replacing are the battery and tyres (not worth it on the originals, who knows how grippy they are), draining and renewing the oil is a good idea too, my bike was sitting around donig nothing for 18 months before i bought it with nary a kick over every few months. I did under 500k's before i replaced the oil.

as for the carbies, the minimum you'll need to do is use the current fuel as weed killer and drain the float bowls (theres a brass screw on the bottom of each bowl for this, just make sure the fuel taps off). The fuel may have gummed up the various circuits and need a rebuild (i.e. stripping it down and soaked overnight in carbie cleaner, all the seals replaced, etc)

Or if your more lucky you may find its just left crap in the bowl and only slightly affected the different cirucits. In which case i suggest getting a bottle of wynns carby cleaner and putting 3 tanks of fuel through the engine with 1/3 the bottle put in before each refill. thats about 600-800kms or so. If you do, just make sure you give the bile a good workout at a variety of throttle openings to help clear any potential crap out.

oh and unregistered for two years, given the consumables (and possible labour and parts for a rebuild if a shop has to do it) i would be offering 1500 to 2 MAXIMUM.

Valves, cams, crank & gears are possibly rust pitted. Due to no oil for 3 years. The valve springs may need replacing, no oil & partly or fully compressed for 3 years.

How much is a full engine re-build? Add the new tyres & registration costs and subtract those from the redbook price.
