Hi all,
How low can you get your ZZR600?, should you be able to scrape the pegs? I got hassled by the bike shop last time i changed my tyres...they said i wasn't using them enough (big chicken strips)
BTW, i am running BT-14's

tell em to get f**ked
i always carry a decent set of chicken strips on my new tyres till i get them to the track then i make a mess of them.
I am not that fast on the road so i dont get as far over on the side of my tyres as when im on the track.
DOnt worry about the stupid mechanics. get the bike on a track and then you will tear the tyres apart

That's a rude comment for them to make!
I scraped my peg at superbike school last year when i was on my old ZZR600

It all depends on a lot of factors from clearance of the bike, the tyres, the road, the conditions etc. ...but the biggest factor is the rider. Take it easy and work your way out there at a level that you are comfortable with. Ride as much as you can, with as many different people as you can, on as many different roads as you can, do a cornering school, keep smooth etc etc etc
At the end of the day it's not how much tyre you use, it's how fast you go round corners. Some people use all the tyre and are still as slow as a wet week.

aaah...such words of wisdom

MotoGp riders try as much as possible to keep the bikes upright
coz a bike goes faster when upright...not when leaned over
and every bit of knowledge on sportsbike riding spouts the same line
as Mick Sez...its not how much tyre you use
....its how fast you go (or can go)
cheers

Not that I've ridden one, but I'd say that peg scrapage etc would be possible - given it's a touring bike i doubt the pegs are that high. Keep that kind of play for the track though.

Could not agree more

i also agree, though i am trying to slowly build more confidence in my tyres and improve my riding, i've done 25,000 k's in the last year and a half but it's all commuting, i occasionally get out for a night ride through mccarrs creek and feel i could dig in a little more in some of the tighter turns but don't have the confidence i probably could in my tyres. A couple of sets ago, i did the riding dynamics course with HART and got the chicken strips down to around 1cm but haven't felt as confident since that day.
Maybe i need to do a track day

commuting is NOT conducive to reducing the width of your chicken strips
either do the track day...or go ride Nasho or Putty

Around town I have never scraped my ZZR's pegs.
On a trip I snapped one of the peg feelers off, and ground a nice little bevel into the other whilst riding somewhat spiritedly. It still wasn't using the whole rear tyre, though that's probably more to do with a sad shock. The front was edge to edge.
I wouldn't be trying to do it, myself (I wasn't). Just ride your own ride and if it happens, it happens. Do note that the stands tend to scrape after the feelers, which has the potential for some misery. As noted by others, chicken strips are not a mark of shame, at least not to me. Kishys, on the other hand ...

During a trip around Tassie,my centre stand kept on scraping and then again at PI,after the Island there were no chicken strips,in the end I cut off the rubber stop on the centre stand, but it still scraped.Get a ZXR6 or 9 and have more fun!
