Off Restrictions - next bike

All
I am considering what to get once the P restrictions is up.
I want a sports bike as most of my fun riding is at the track or hooning in the hills. I am not into touring.
I am thinking 600s or the GSXR750.
I think the new Honda and kwaka will be too expensive when released - no discounts. There are good current deals on the GSXR600 and also the 750, and also the r6.
Does anyone have a view on whether the 750 is too powerful for someone with 18 months experience?
I think I would be fine on it but interested in tapping into the vast pool of ksrcorian folklore and knowledge.

At one stage in motorcycle licensing you could ride a 1000cc on L's or bigger, really depends on how competent you are behind the handlebars. Am sure there are plenty of ppl riding that don't even do the 250cc thing, either ride a bigger bike from the moment they get L's and hope they don't get busted or don't ride and wait till they can legally ride bigger.
600 is a good size to upgrade too and 750cc not that much bigger really.

the current Gixxer750* is one of the best hyper sports bikes
available atm... its a hardcore roadrocket
and
if you only have been on a 250 for 18 months
my suggestion would be ..not to get one...yet
go out and get something less hardcore
ride it for 3 years..and then get one
*the 750 is faster around PI than the Gixxer 1000

Personally I'd go something with a bit less poke, maybe a early 2000s ZX6R or even a later-year ZZR600 (great second bike, but not if you're too tall). Mainly this is because of the quantum leap in performance between a 250 and a 600 is enough of a jump without going even larger.
You might want to also consider the ER-6N or F, Yamaha FZ6N (or S) or the Suzuki SV650 (naked or the half-faired S model)

Buy something from around the turn of the century. Cheaper to buy, easier to find parts for when you drop it, much lower risk of it being stolen...

If you want a nice little ZX6, 1997 version, I can get you one for about 5 large, its in really good nick, full service history, Omrae pipe. Send a pm if you are interested...

Two years ago I did my L's on a 34HP Suzuki DR650. Four months and 10,000kms later, I jumped up to a 150HP Honda Blackbird (mature age riders can do that in NSW

). Did a few courses and have since racked up another 50,000kms without incident.
If you're cashed up and keen on a new gixxer, the GSXR750 does it for me. Assuming you've ridden a fair bit during your 18 months and you show her some respect while you come to grips with the extra ponies, you shouldn't have a problem.

Anyone know where I can get a good deal on a gsxr750?
Also any views on the merits of trade in v private sale for my existing bike (2004 zzr250)

The idea of asking for advice is that you use it help you make up your mind, not to validate the decision you've already made...
Next time you're in this position, try not to waste everybody's time, please. Just wait until you've bought the new bike, then announce it.

Now that's the type of response I coulda bet on, head str8 to the winners pay window IK.
If you like a bike then buy the farker, no one is gunna judge you, well yes we will but that is for after you bought a spewzuki...
Mate, feel comfy on what you like not what everyone else does... though ... ya gotta love the 9.... hehe

I jumped on the ZX7R after about the same period of time. As long as you understand the power output is a hell of a lot more than a 250 and take it easy it should be ok. Mates told me i was nuts but then again ...I don't knnow???
I looked at and rode the GSXR600 then the GSXR750 straight after and found the revs on the 600 needed to be a lot higher. The 750 seemed more user friendly with a more useable power over the rev range.
Try both cc's as as close together as possible then make your choice.
Go for something on the older size as mentioned before until you are used to it then work your way up the power ranks or onto a newer ride.

Smitty sorry but they are a sports bike, the only hypersports are the 12, Busa and the blackbird. Anyway thats my input.. Other than that get what you want. At the end they are all as dangerous as you make them..
