on the web today.........
Motorists should 'take care near trucks'

Christmas motorists need to show courtesy to truck drivers over the holiday season, Transport Minister Mark Vaile says.

Mr Vaile said motorists should take extra care when driving near trucks.
...(huh?)

Last Christmas 83 people died on Australian roads and about one in fourteen fatal accidents during that period involved trucks.

"The ATA's national drive for safety is an important contribution to saving lives, particularly at Christmas, when so many families travel long distances on our roads," Mr Vaile said. The safety program was initiated by the Australian Trucking Association (ATA).

good safety message...do we have a safety levy on trucks..??? nope
but we are asked to show courtesy..to trucks
why? coz they are over-represented in fatals?

how about motorists showing courtesy to bikes

Are you talking about motorcyclists or truck drivers?

I think it's a good idea to remind people that in an accident involving you and a truck - the truck probably won't come off as badly as you will!

Most motorcyclists probably don't need reminding, since they deal with being more vulnerable every time they go out, but I've seen some really idiotic maneouvers pulled in front of trucks, especially at traffic lights. It's almost as if people think if they can squeeze into the spot, the truck will magically be able to stop in time. To the truckies credit, they usually do.
And I've usually found truckies to be courteous drivers by and large (there's always the arseholes in any group, of course).

bloody oath, and even more so out on the highways.......truckies generally give you signals when its OK to overtake, etc, and they are always friendly at truck-stops ( best places for tucker when you are out in the wastelands..... ) - well, thats my experience of them anyway....
