I'm going to be in Perth for about 2 weeks over Christmas and was thinking I'd like to have my bike over there with me, but not sure of the costs.
What is the cheapest - but also safest - way of getting it there and back?

It'd be a long ride across the Nullabor mate
Already got a plane ticket, but might look into the train option.

About $300 from memory, incl. insurance (Syd to Bris). Was the best I found at the time

I once looked into taking the bike over to Perth on the train[with me] and then riding once over there , it was a fair few years ago, and I cant remember how much it was but I do remember thinking it was cheaper to go to Hong Kong for 2 weeks all up than getting there and back on the train .

Just be aware, too, that as far as I know a lot of insurance policies don't cover "transit". I thought about having the bike transported up to Brisbane with all my other gear, but found out that bike insurance wouldn't cover it for that purpose and neither would the removalists insurance. I guess thats why it costs so much to get a bike transporter to do it
