Policeman hangs on to speeding bike

November 3, 2006 - 10:29AM

A police officer has survived a wild ride, hanging onto a motorcycle as its rider sped off trying to evade arrest in Adelaide's southern suburbs.

Police said a 37-year-old man was spotted last night sitting on what was thought to be a stolen motorbike at Christies Beach. As he was approached, he started the bike and accelerated at the officer, hitting his legs.

"The police officer managed to hang onto the rider when they travelled across Beach Road, over the median strip, where the officer managed to drag the rider from the bike," a police spokesman said.

The man was later charged with illegal use of the motorcycle and acts to endanger life.

He was expected to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.

"When the rider was searched, police allegedly located four stolen credit cards that have been traced to victims of bag snatches over the last week," the spokesman said.

Pfft... They make a big song and dance about it and he gets a week off work injured. Weak.

I was recently off work for two months with a torn ligament and tendon in my right ankle after I grabbed a crook riding a stolen bike. Rode up next to the sucker and grabbed him.

Where's my f&*ken bravery medal?
