Hey, i was just wondering, im due for another oil change, i was looking at going with Q8 oils mainly for price and realised they had a mineral based one.
MOTO GT 10W-40
if anyone has been to narellan kwaka, do you know if they stock this *im just asking cause im lazy, its late and ill be leaving early to either go to pole position *my local store* or narellan kawasaki....
considering motul 5100 is semi-syn and 30 bucks for 2 litres.. im assuming 4 litres of mineral stuff from q8 should be relatively the same...
*note, assuming makes one an ass*
also, on an older engine like mine *1987, although only 46 000km now*
would it be better to go with mineral over synthetic for making sure i dont flush out any leaks currently blocked by gunk?
cheers. Chris.

Mate shoot out to Narellan Kwacka and put the good stuff in it, you will feel better. I'd run a full Synthetic mate, its gotta be good for it.
Also, introduce yourself to Richard, he's a top bloke that will give you a discount, and a discount on other things you may need one day.

If you do change over to fully synth, then stick with it. Don't start swapping between mineral and synthetic oils, its not recomended by the manufacturers.
I copped some problems on one bike after using semi-synth, then swapping back to mineral oil - it can and does affect some engine gaskets in odd ways
The good synthetic oils are really designed for high-stressed multi-valve motors that have relatively tight clearance specifications (piston, valves etc).

go with synthetic if you have the money to burn
otherwise the valvoline engine oil that costs about $12 or so for 4 litres is SG rated , change it every 3K and a filter every 6k
bike will see out 100K plus no probs whatsoever

is being SG rated all i have to look out for? and making sure its not energy conserving? because id rather get car oil and replace it every 2500 then 30 bucks for a change every 5000. im not that rich unfortunatly... and the money id save would go into my "new motor" or "new bike" fund

...

avoid any car oil that is labelled 'Friction Modified', even if it has an SG rating.
If you are going to be getting a new bike soon, forget synth and stick to a quality mineral oil. Save the synth for the new bike. Remember, in a little over 8 weeks time, your scooter will be 20 years old !!!
(shit is that time already ?? Its half-past my life o'clock

oh dear....)

hey

its only got 40K on the clock though
yeah, ill probably go with high quality mineral oil, or mineral bike oil, after all, its like 500 bucks for a new motor for mine with 20 000km on it

*checked on findapart*
*edit* although your right, when i get the new bike it will be ALL synthetic, good parts, and im completely obsessive compulsive with maintainance, ... ill probably be changing the oil twice in the period the manufacturer reccomends for one ... *i know it might not do any purpose... but im obsessive*

I seem to have good results with comp 4 silkolene semi synthetic and have been paying 37 bucks for 4 liters which is probably a couple of oil changes for a gpx.

yeah, 1.9 litres per change. ill probably just go with good quality mineral bike oil if i can find it, there was some ones on MCAS for 29 bucks for 4 litres.

exactly , its an old school motor , SE/SF was the old days
SJ shouldnt be used as it doenst have a min guarentee of levels of zinc etc anti wear items
as i suggested cheapest valvoline one GPX i know did 125K on it

I recently got 4 litres of Castrol Activ 4T for $29.90 from Kmart, this is a semi synth 10W-40 and seems quite good.

nice.. i went around a few places and the cheapest i found was the 2 litres of MOTUL for 30 bucks. 4 litres of 4T at supercheap was like... 40 bucks O.o
so i picked up some Valvoline 20W50 SF oil, 5L for 14 dollars, and a new filter.
