Well my bike is cactus fuctus, $1500 roughly for a bike shop to repair it and I don't reckon it's worth it so...
What to do what to do, fix it using the generosity of 2 members here and their garage and expertise, sell it as is and let someone else worry about it, scrap it as parts and take what I can get for it (most profitable but least desired option).
Least desired as i'll invariably end up with bits of a bike i'll have no use for that will hang around for friggin ever..

If you sell it like it is you are going to get nothing for it.
Do you REALLY want to spend money fixing it all up because you do know when and IF it come here it wont be leaving without new paint, screen etc
If you are going to get anther bike get rid of it Mick. Put the cash you will be spending to fix it into the other bike

Mick it depends on what situation you are in. If spending more than $1500 is not an option, then I would fix it. You needs transport, and what would you get for $1500 these days apart from something like you have?
There are some other options to investigate. What about putting a second hand motor in it from a wreckers. If you replace the water pump and asociated bits, you still have a 100,000+klm old ZZR600!! Where as, you may well be able to source a motor from a wrecker complete for $1500. with lower mileage, thus giving the bike a new lease on life.
If you are intending to just uprgrade, then spending anything at all on the ZZR will be a total waste of money. It's worth nothing as it sits, and slightly more than that with a fixed motor. So why bother. Only spend money on it if you intend keeping it.
I think when you are looking for your next bike Mick there are a few criteria that should be considered, that will match up with your errr operating methods.
oil cooled- If there is no water cooling system, you won't have to check it.
Naked- Fairings are only items that you either break, or fail to wash.
Twin Cylinder- 4 cylinders require twice the labour to service mick, you may save money on servicing and be able to then afford fuel.
500cc or less- They are really cheap on fuel Mick. Saves those embarrassing for most moments when you have to borrow fuel money to get you home.
Suzuki/Yamaha/Honda- Any of these brands will suit you mate, Just don't buy another Kawasaki. it's painfull to watch someone destroying a Kawasaki like that!

Called Vic Bike wreckers with exactly that idea, get a motor with 28000 k on it for 2g with my motor as a trade in, again not worth it.

I've never had to borrow momney to get home petrol wise, zzr was a slurper with 320+k to a tank, water coling system was good as gold until recently and dunno why it failed in the way it did, but, it did.
As for naked and a twin, have n probs with either of those ideas, just a matter of finding what I want, contemplating 900 Hornet amongst other things.

Sell it as is, and put the money into the new bike.

Might get a postie bike so Mina has company at the back of the field, would keep up ok with Mina

Sell your bike for bits (probably to a wrecker for $500), use it as a deposit on an old bike. Pay it off over 5 years sothat the payments are really low...

Mines a 96 E series, thanks for the link, $675 shipped to Vic, almost tempting but if mines a 96 model and done +100,00k's who's to know the history on this one...

its still in the frame, so it might still have odometer.....

There's no option for persuading a dealer to take it as a trade in, or to create finance by selling tickets to the zzr600 fireworks display
(I assume it's covered 3rd party fire & theft
).

Sell it for parts would be my suggestion, that is of course only if you have another form of transport
If not i wuld be doing a clean up and try to off load it as a trade in.
