buying bike in different state to where u live?

hi all,
when i eventually get over there i need to buy a bike,
i got really bad withdrawl symptoms now, after selling my 10r 3-4months ago in prep for emigrating
i havent ridden for 3-4months
so has anyone bought a bike in a different state to where you live, to get the best price you can on a bike?
are there any pitfalls in doing this?
or is it just best to buy the bike in the state you live in?
im only asking, because i plan on starting off in brissie, staying with a friend and getting sorted with renting/buying a house,
getting a job and getting a bike, but then i may decide to move to a different state if things dont work out there or it could be just too damn hot for me
thanks in advance,
dave.

I think you will find that if you are looking at getting a bike from anther state that someone from KSRC will go and look at it for you. You know your very much covered here in VIC and I am sure you will find the same with the NSW people as well. Are you still going to wait till after X-Mas to move

Oh and be sure to be in VIC in March for the Supers your beds still here if you need it

I'm thinking of doing this if I can find a cheaper bike in NSW. Also I might pay a visit with it to the suspension guys Colette went to with her 6R.
...however I'm looking at a new bike, which should minimise the risk.

I bought my previous 2 bikes interstate and rode them back to Brisbane. Bit of a gamble but both purchases turned out ok.

Its also helpful if one of the states isn't an island.

VERY valid point

FWIW HE1 bikes seem to normally be cheaper IN Qld than other states, less stamp duty I believe, having said that, that may well apply only to new bikes...

thanks for the bike buying advice, i think would be looking at buying a new bike, im thinking of going back to sports touring, so ive been thinking of going back to a honda blackbird which seem reasonably cheapish(i mean in price! not honda quality b4 you all start on me

if you are buying new then it doesnt really matter much where you buy it from , basic rules apply, shop around and bargain hard
if you are buying used then its a different ball of wax
selling a bike that is registered in a different state to the one you are in is a little more difficult as the buyer will need to register it whrere they live which is a hassle for them
