Insp McCoomb said one speeding motorcycle caught in front and rear camera shots had no plates, and another motorcyclist covered his rear plate with his hand when he realised there was a speed camera behind him.

This article just goes to show exactly how the government really only uses these cameras as a way to make money. Not that we didn't already know that!!!
Plus a front number plate would b incredibly stupid as there is virtually no where to stick one on, plus an e-tag is sort of violation of privacy. I understand they have them in sydney for hte tolls but when it comes to cameras it basically means they know where u are at any time..

Wouldnt it be easier to microchip anybody with a bike licence and wrap them in cotton wool and store them somewhere.

They still refuse to release reasonable statistics on motorcycle accidents and we are led to believe thet there al the riders fault and the only way to stop it is to remove all motorcyclists from the road.

So 2500 motorcycles not booked but 17000 cars not booked so why not micro chip the cars as they are obviosly the worst offenders

You just wait until they add a cheap transponder to every speed limit sign and a receiver linked to a cruise control type device. No-one would be able to speed anywhere. It may be a bit pricy to install, but no speeding ever again. Of course, they'd lose all that revenue and have lots of cameras to sell.

Thats pessimistic, but a fair call. I can imagine that there'd be problems with things like that too, such as parallel roads and getting stray signals slowing you down to 50 on a freeway, etc.

I think that they'd rather have the revenue raising abilities than the whole "safety" thing, despite claims to the contrary. btw read an article yesterday from the UK on an oz site stating that speed was only a contributing factor in a small number of cases

umm yea i can reach around and flip my number plate whilst travelling...depends on the bike....i ussually *cough cough* actually stand up, and use a foot to cover my plate *cough cough*

Yeah because so many motorcyclist kill other people.. And not just involved in accidents caused by idiots in cars.. I bet the mojority of single bike accidents are cause by a car doing something stupid and the rider being forced to act evasively and the accident recorded as rider error which goes in the catagory of rider caused accidents

And I wonder of all the people they missed money from, actually had an accident as a result of speeding when they were photographed...

If only they didn't try to make money and actually worked actively in prevention instead.. Atleast it was a cop car in the pic, unlike in VIC.

We passed an unmarked car facing traffic in the middle of the highway parked nose first into a half dead tree trying to camoflage himself... Very active in speed prevention... 2 weeks later once they get the ticket... pricks..

I will admit that recently i have noticed most stupid motorcyclist on the roads

i understand lane spliting but there are times to do it
not at a 100k where the gap isnt big enough
had a bike hit my mirror on the ute the other day trying to fit between me and a semi

Guy's take the responsibility and dont always blame the car driver
most of us do some stupid thing or speed
not saying that car drivers look or act correctly

If you read the thread about the NRSS report you will see that speed enforcement is in no way going to reduce.
What myself, and i'm sure many others would like to see is more 'intelligent' and 'educated' enforcement procedures. I know that a lot of motorists (if they are speeding in the first place) will slow down for a speed camera, then speed up again once past (which then leads to them being hidden). Not good.

I know it won't happen due to various reasons (including budgets) but i believe that a more visual prescence of police on the road acts as more of a deterrent to reduce the actions that cause accidents.
In simple terms: If the chance of getting caught doing something is higher, you(most reasonable folks) are less likely to do it.

Yes it's a simplistic argument with (atm) so supporting data apart from common sense and a little decency to other road users.

Distractions, along with speed, are also listed as a major cause of accidents. SO how many of us now spend too much time looking at our speedo to make sure we are not 2 klm/h over in case we get booked. Hence we add another distraction to an already (according to nrss research) distraction filled task of piloting a motor vehicle.
