Probably the dry clutch rattling- normal duke behaviour!
Kawasakis are hardly the quietest bikes too! I rode a ZRX1200 the other day with 4000km on it, and it had a camchain rattle, not unlike the typical Kwaka rattle my ZZR has too.

Light rattle from the top end of the engine- usually camchain.

Doesn't really matter- they all do it. My GT has a bewdy of a top end rattle that comes and goes, and a primary chain rattle, and something loose in the fairing rattle, and a front brake pad rattle, and a fuel tap rattle (!) etc

Well every bike has its downsides, when doing about 110-120 on the RF the fairings resonate slightly. Unfortunately that goes when you wind it on harder, so it just encourages you to go faster
r.e. the camchain noise, seems that kawa must have had the same guy designing their camchains and tensioners for the last 50 years, shouldnt they put him out to pasture or somethin by now?

It was definiitley the dry clutch.

At least you won't need to worry about the rattle for a while now

Ducati reliability is one of those things that got blown out of all proportion.
The early 860's (Darmahs 900SS etc.) had to have the bevels and all the other mechanical shit in there "just so". IF it was set up right they wre reliable as anything else (even more so). BUT when set up by a jappa mechanic (or me

) they got a bit cranky.
"She'll be right" doesnt work with Italians....
The early ones had design faults everywhere but so did the same era japs.
Nuts. bolts and electrical connections had to be checked constantly and if it rained you stopped. CRC/DWF works but constant vibration means even its charms are limited.
Get em right on a good day and they will keep a modern bike honest.
888's 916's and 999's are sex.

Ducatis require a service every 10,000km while your Kawasaki requires it every 6,000km - Ducatis are unreliable?
some people hear of things from a long time ago and take it as gospel! let me guess ... you don't Drive a Japanese car 'cos they are "Jap Crap"?

I've done 25,000km on my 749 now and have just had to change my Low Beam Headlight 'cos it blew! Oh My God! that is so unreliable I think I'll sell the Duck and buy something reliable like a Kawasaki that apparently NEVER has issues!
and YES I am sick of hearing jealous people waffle on and on about Ducatis breaking down and the cost of working on them!

I love the way ducatis look and sound except for idling.... Those dry clutches sound so horrible....
But that is the price you pay for having style I guess
By the way, I dont like the new 999's I think they dont look very nice personally... I like the older 998's better... they look hot....
In any case, the 999 should be mega reliable.... Ducati have just finished outfitting their entire factory... In fact the 999 and all the new models have about 38% less parts than previous models...
But yeah, Kawasakis have really noisey engines.... Get my 03 ZX6R and start it.... then switch it off and start up my wifes gixxer and you hers pers like a kitten where mine sounds like a truck engine.... My CBR sounded nowhere near as noisey either...

.... or was it a Honda?
