Yeah i shouldn't have been in such a hurry to get to work *sigh*, got nabbed by a copper doing 128 along the Warringah Freeway on the way to work this morning (an 80 zone). I had knocked it down a cog and overtook a car and wound it out a bit, apparently just a bit *too* much.
I was asked why i was in a hurry, said i was a bit late to work and I told the cop i'd only had the bike a month and a half and it wound out far more than i was used to and what i had intended (i had seriously only meant to get up to 20-25 over), This is one of those few moments when i miss my gpx, sorta...
Anyway the cop was nice enough to bump it down from the 45 over bracket (i was 48 over) with its $1500 odd fine and 6 month immediate suspension, down to 30 over, $590 fine as i was polite and apologetic.
Still, FARK. Considering my only real offense before this in 10 years of driving is Feb last year, and i work shiftwork (7am/pm starts and finishes), anyone got any idea how much of a chance i've got to keep a 1 point probationary license for a year? (or is it worth just swallowing the pride and going the 3months of walking?)

Oh shit mate, i know exactly how u feel, i have already been in the same boat as u, and its bloody shit house. 90 days will scream past tho and before u know it, u will b back on the bike and really appreciating how good it is to ride!
prob call vicroads or talk to a traffic cop, more than likely vicroads and ask wat the deal is, i know in tassie if u lose all 12 points u can a "double or nothing" gamble, basically 1 point for 12 months! if u lose it, u get double the penalty!

I would walk for three months

If you know u cannot for certian stick to the speed limit 3 is way better than 12

Shit Mike, that sucks
Well, it is possible to go a year without getting a speeding fine, as you've obviously demonstrated in the past, so the 1 point for a year option is viable in principle.
Only you can weigh up the risks and benefits for you. Ask yourself if you can not speed at all, ever, no matter what the reason, excuse, rationalisation, etc for a full year. And answer yourself honestly.
I'm not sure I could do that, but considering where I work is a royal pain to get to without private transport, I think I'd try.
What's the damage if you take the 1 point option and get caught speeding during the one year probation?

Double the suspension period. plus whatever suspension period you may score due to loosing that one point.

If i worked a 9-5 job i'd just go sod it and take 3 months of walking. however its working shift thats the p.i.t.a. Means i'd have to be at the train station at 5:30 to get to work at 6:50 for a 7am start instead of the wake AT 5:30, and leave at 6:15 i usually do.
That's bad enough, but what im dreading is the public holidays, Christmas, etc. Now i think of it, i'm going to have to look into when the public holidays are, as this could start becoming a royal pain in the butt.
oh and saki im in NSW, so in some regards not as anal as Vic, but in others they take your money equally effectively.

Ouch.
So:
1) 3 month suspension now
or
2) 1 year of probation, with a 6 month suspension if you get caught
Shitty choice
May I suggest no KSRC rides during the year if you go for option #2?

Yeah, agreed about that. and if i took #2 (and was permitted to take it), i'd just be using the car to get to work. Talk about an expensive lesson in time management! (my problem is i hate commuting, the less time spent doing it, the better)..
The only time the bike would come out is for the occasional cruise around or just head on through kangaroo valley / the natio at a very leasurely pace.
goddamn, this is gonna screw with my head all day while im at work.

For what it is worth mike, I have handed in my licence several times and am on a six month one now...
It goes quick, you get used to it, and with the money saved I am shoutin myself a trackie at PI half way through...

An added factor that just occured to me is that the cop bumped me down a bracket, if i go to court they may just hit me for the full 6 month suspension for 45+.
3 months walking seems do-able, just annoying.

Sorry to hear this Mike, what a pain!
But then again, consider yourself lucky that this is the only time you have been caught (which means you have probably gotten away with it loads of times

)
Looks like the 3 month option may be your best bet...

no good mate.
why is it when u lose u licence for 3 month it seems like an eternity but normal every day living 3 months flies past as if it was a week.

AFAIK the 12 month double or nothing option is only when you have collected 12 or more points
you got done the 30 over thats a 3 month no option

Just picture having one point for 12 months and 8 or 9 months into it you're running late for work...
Take the 90 days.
