Coming home this morning my baby finally ticked over 100,000km.
Happy to say she is still running as strong as she ever has and doesn't look like slowing down anytime soon.





The engine hasn't been touched and wont need to be for quite a while yet. The brakes and suspension though are definitely starting to show their age, but both will be getting looked at very soon. Now I just need a big tax return!

2005 ZX6 front end ready to be transplanted onto it (will hopefully be getting stuffed full of racetech internals if the budget allows)


And the matching radial brakes for it...


Also have braided lines coming for the new front end. Once thats done will be looking for an ohlins rear shock, then some wave discs if there is any money left over.

i'm VERY keen to know how the front end transplant goes. (and how much it cost if you dont mind letting me know)

Clocked my ZZR 600 about 2 weeks ago myself, a particulary big milestone achievement as it was done on the way to Chateau Strika to pick up a washing machine

I'm only about a year off hitting that milestone, aside from a cam chain tensioner (had the chain done just in case) and a dead battery it's still going great.

Well done, that's a top effort. Shows the durability of the mighty Big K.

Nice one bloke!! .. It really makes my limited use < 8000km a year insurance seem so stupid hehe

You were picking up a washing machine on your bike??

That's a good thing! Only ever done that once, on my trusty XS750E way back in the 80's.

im only nearing 40,000km on my 98 9R tho it was only on 26,000km when i got it in november... long way to go yet!


yet mine is so so so much more ghetto than either of the above 100,000km+ 9R's i guess being crashed at least 4 times doesnt help tho

quite likely i will get 100,000km out of her, because it will never ever be worth enough to even bother trying to sell it

No worries dude I will be keeping the forum updated with the tranplant progress. At this stage its either going to happen in 1 weeks time, or 6 weeks time (the guy who is doing it does a 5 on/1 off roster). He does incredible work though so am more then happy enough to wait for his next lot of time off if need be.

I dont mind letting people know the prices at all (hell I dont plan on selling it anytime soon!)
As always US ebay is the only place to go when you need late model parts. Picked up the forks for $250 US plus $90 US shipping hence they were about $450 AU delivered to my door. And the entire front brake setup cost $100 US plus $80 US shipping, hence about $240 AU delivered to my door.

Both the forks and the brakes are in awesome condition. The bike they came off must of had stuff all km on it since neither have even the slightest scratch on them. Perfect!!!

Also have a +2" length set of 2005 ZX6 braided front lines (I plan on keeping the clip ons above the triple clamps ala ZX9 hence why they are longer) in transit at the moment. Picked them up for basically nothing at all due to my dealings with the HEL group buy

The one part that is still frieking expensive regardless of being overseas are wheels. Add to that fact they are bloody expensive to post also means you are lucky to get them landed for less then $400 - $500 AU each. I wasnt prepared to drop that much cash on a new front wheel which is why I did a bit of research beforehand and found out the ZX9 front wheel should *hopefully* bolt in to the new forks with minor modifications.

Thankfully the disc rotor size is almost identical between the bikes (297mm vs 300mm) hence no mods should be needed there. The distance between the rotors is also pretty much identical also, so very little if any mods will have to be made there either. That just leaves a few new wheel spacers to be made up and making the front axle fit to hopefully have it all bolted together.

At this stage we arent sure if we are going to have to swap the steering stem out or not, but apparently its not a major issue even if we do have to swap them over. The forks didnt come with a top clamp, but the guy who is doing the work for me will most likely make up a nice billet one instead.

Anyway thats enough from me for now. Will keep everyone updated.

Hmm.... 100,000km with no engine work? Looking forward to that... 2009, at this rate.

how often have you guys had the valve clearances checked over the 100,000km?
