Touring on a GPX250R

Post by rocco »

hI Guys and Gals,

I have reading up on stories with pics on touring and boy oh boy it sure looks like a lot of fun!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I know the gpx250r isnt an ultra powerfull bike for performance riding but would it be ok to say that the 250 will be ok for touring lets say a 1,000km rountrip give or take a few hundred k's? I am not a speed hungry rider so 110-120km/h is ok for me to ride at on my trip....any faster would only be to overtake ( or maybe to outrun an old lady in her corolla)

The wifey has put a barr on me upgrading till next year......other committments to see through. I wanna take the bike out further as riding around town makes me feel like a dog in the back yard.

Anyone taken a smaller bike out for a loooooooong ride?

Cheers

The Roc

As long as you fit well on the bike then, yeah, it shouldn't be a big problem. Unless your bike is a lemon and has 1,001 little problems ;)

lol
no issues at all
i have done it on my old gpx, was comfy was fun and best of all it has 2 wheels.

dont worry about loading it up, i had mine and my exs gear on my bike while he rode his gsxr with no gear on it all the way.

just enjoy it.

My misses took her's to P.I. with no probs.
All we did was put a smaller sprocket on the rear to reduce the revs at higher speeds...

There is a guy still lives in Rton used to own the Kawasaki shop back when if you had long hair you got served last (I kid you not) name of Garth McBryde, raced classics for years, imported Ducatis, rode around Oz I dont know how many times, racing as he went. The 1st guy I had ever seen with his knee out (I was a kid  )
Anyway when they first came out he bought a wrecked one from the shop and rode around Oz on it. (I imagine LOTS have since they are F*N great).
When he came back he said to me "Young Malone buy one of these things, it is the nicest bike I have ever ridden, a bloomin turbine no less"
I dont think he said bloomin, but he never swore and it was a word like that.
I had a KLR600 (kick start) at the time which I used to have to balance, jump up off the peg to kick (not compression, my height  ) and Knew EVERYTHING (much like now actually  ) and called it gutless.
My ex bought one and I changed my mind, what a bloody turbine.....
Anyone remember those GPz250's before the GPX's, little boy racer they were... Geez I'd love one.... anyone got one?

Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD

Bloke I used to know took a pushbike around Australia, whilst he was in cape York or thereabouts he ran into a bloke doing the same thing on a 50cc Vespa (not that I would like to try it personally) so if ya can do it on a 50cc, no drama with a 250cc.

The furthest I've taken my ZZR250 to is Sydney, slightly over 2000km round trip, 3 days.

Maaaate , just get a rack and take off . I would happily troll along on a ZZR 250 on the open road so the GPX would be just the same .
You could happily put in 500+ kays in a day .
Enjoy .
Ummmm let me see
