Cath's new ride

Well here's my new bike. An '06 ZX6R, courtesy of Narellan Kawasaki. I picked it up on Saturday. At the time I thought it was a pretty good bike that would teach me a lot, at a price I couldn't go past, but that I'd probably sell it on in 12 months.

Somewhere between Narellan and Gosford (I'm pretty sure it was on the old road, not in Sydney traffic!) I think I fell in love with it... It's damn fun to ride, and riding it when it's yours is completely different from riding it when it's just a test ride.

It's absolutely bog-stock at the moment, but once I get home from the GP, there is a list of things I will slowly be adding.

Getting to know the bike - on the old road today. Still babying it along at the moment - keeping the revs low is torture - it just wants to keep accelerating 8)

Why are you keeping the revs low?

Don't baby it, rev it reasonably hard in all the gears varying the load on the engine & let it decel with minimal or preferably no brakes...

I have never been soft on an engine yet & NEVER will....

My 2 stroke CR250's always got warmed up "Properly" and then are ridden about 50m to make sure it's not going to nip up & then I just ride it like normal. Slow like an old fella being 29 & all.

Obviously all my opinion & probably means nothing, only thing I guess is be careful on new tyres, but you no doubt knew that all ready....

Giz is right, its all about ring seal
I think run in has more to do with running in the rider
I only wish I hadnt run all my bikes in religously to this point
There is a WICKED website on it that changed my mind completely
I will track it down from the guy I got it off and get back this time tomorrow.
Unless someone else knows it?

I *did* hear about a different theory to the traditional 'running in' theory, but never actually read about it.
If you do find a link, I'd be interested in reading it.

And it's quite rude that you didn't at least mention how pretty my new bike is

agree with the post above, i think the main issue is with running in the rider ;)

Well done Cath, looks great.

Re: the above... there are more people that seem to disagree with the theory than agree with it. Regardless, you should run the bike in as per the manufacturers specs, because at the end of the day, they are the ones supplying the warranty.
