having a bad run at the moment, got done for speeding a few weeks back (nothing special just 15k over on the M1 a 110 zone) then today got done for neg riding. .. im reeeeaaallly bummed about todays one because i dont think im in any way a 'neglagent rider' . so the guy said he did me a favour and gave me just the one ticket :-/ so what happened was .. just cruising in the left lane on the highway to murwillumbah (was heading to burringbar for an arvo cruise) and was just bored sitting on 100 , so i gave the bars a wiggle then my mate in front of me slows right down to something like 60 i dunno why, so i just kept my momentum and went past, still doing the limit, then i see this cop in my lane next to me signalling to pull over .. so i did ...

first thing he says in a real rude arse tone ' that rear tyre is ruined!' its a pilot power i have done probly 400 k's on and one track day, (its 3 weeks old) its far from ruined so i pointed out the wear indicators and then he seemed to get really angry.. i also explained it was worn to the edge from the track not the road.. the he said 'what were u doing in your lane back there' and i just said i was wiggling the bars cause i turned the damper up and was seeing how tight it was, i dont think he knew what a damper was cause he kinda didnt understand but anyways, he then tells me that i swerved into his lane and nearly took him out, that was bs my mate can attest to it but anyways .. he then goes on to tell me hes been dealing with idiots like me for 18 years and that guys like me crash and that im a bad rider etc etc. i kinda reacted to the personal attacks and said im not a bad rider then he told me to not argue and i said i didnt wanna :?

i guess i shouldnt have shook the bars in my lane but i think i got kind of bs'd into a fine , but .. what can ya do ? its lucky i like riding so much .. this brings it to over 1k in fines since ive had road bikes (2.5 years) its becoming financially .. draining u could say.

Sounds like a good candidate for a court appeal.

Have a chat to a lawyer.

Is negligent riding in QLD the same as failing to maintain effective control everywhere else?

If so, you need to look at what the average motorist would consider "effective control". Most would say that you either weaving in your lane, wiggling the bars etc isn't effective.

Unfortunatley it sounds like you got a copper that didn't know diddly squat about riding bikes (there's plenty that don't), but if you've been done for failing to maintain effective control or simialr, then you've probably been given the appropriate fine.

How much was todays fine? About $100?

it was in NSW (i live in NSW and have an NSW licence i just live just south of the GC thats why my profile says GC)

but the fine was 300 dollars it said 'negligent riding / driving'

sigh, in my anger i tore up the fine and threw it out when i got home, stupid i know .. but i was pretty damn devo.

on the guy not knowing squat about bikes and riding.. he also missed second when he left, after insisting we went first .. which i didnt i sat on the side of the road cause i was scared he was just going to follow us home :?

the fact he blatantly lied about what happened to give me a fine really annoyed me.

hmm i kno wot u think, and how u feel, but the truth is, no matter how hard u argue, he will win..cos hes a cop...and that sucks..but thats how they do it...

they teach you to weave inside your lane to maintain visibilty of all road users and so other road users notice you, it's standard practice in NSW, ask Glen, think he instructed....

Thats real bad luck dude, if its any consilation my last 2.5 years has been alot more expensive than that, and I still love it..

According to the definition:

You drive negligently when you:
drive on a street; without taking the usual care that a driver should.

I guess wiggling the bars falls into this category.... I certainly wouldn't pinch someone for it, unless they were being an absolute tool.

Its certainly a matter of opinion, it is a sad day when law enforcement becomes a matter of opinion though

i just want to say.. im MORE than happy to say when i have / am being a dick head and this time .. it wasnt one of them!! like ill admit the speeding fine i got was ALL my fault, i shouldnt have been doingit full stop. if i had been taking it too far i would just get over it no sweat... but the fact he made up a lie to sting me for this (or make it sound much worse whatever) shitted me off lol

i just got unlucky it seems!

hey aardvark can u come be a northern NSW copper and patrol the usual routes i take lol 8) u sound like u would be much more reasonable!

side roads and trackdays....much less police, that and your too busy concentrating to lose "effective control".

Motorway riding is so painful i can't help some minor indescretions to enable bloodflow.

Motorways would be more interesting if they were not so heavily policed.
