buy an R1!!! excellent! that's all i have to do eh?!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! nah, i seriously plan on keeping the 6R for a loooooong time... i just love her! and it's fun trying to keep up with the boys on their bigger bikes (not that I can, but it really does push you and your bike closer to full potential)

Well prior to Trackdays if you wern't "race orientated" the best way to get faster was to follow someone whom I trusted that was faster. I will just try to "push" a little & copy what they do. A good Fast rider on a ride day will work out your slower pace n do that plus 5% n if they do pull away slow up often enough to let me catch up to continue the learning.
Its also the one of best parts of group rides imo keeping the bikes relatively close most of the time. I mean if its a big group af 20 bikes, you may have 3 or 4 groups in bunches n the quicker groups sloeing to re unite all the groups every so often. Makes everyone feel part of the ride n puts less pressure on everyone. Also if the quicker riders leave at the front of the group makes for less overtaking n decreases risk for all.
cheers Brett

In the latest issue of AMCN (I bought it coz it was their yearbook issue and I've run out of reading material in the dunny) Mick Doohan has a 5 page story on becoming a better rider.

He says "Being on the limit teaches you everything."

'nuff said.

Neka

I said Following closely to try n copy, Not suck his exhaust pipe. This can be done n maintain a 2 second gap between bikes.

Cheers Brett

You shouldn't be looking at the guy in front anyway... if they crash, just ride by like nothing happened. (unless it's me that's crashed...)

I think that you are spot on Brett.... the other ride day (looking UP and THROUGH corners and also at how you guys were attacking the curves, ie: brakes, lines, body positions, etc...) I learned heaps, and it was feeling a lot more natural on the bike. (suspension set-up was working as well  )
That's why I definitely condone MORE ride days! and you get all the added benefits of meeting great ppl and great places and great (well, OKAY) food!!!
ooo, and I wanna get the AMCN yearly wrap up with Doohan's words in it.... that guy is GOD!

I always try to read all the tips and tecniques I can find, I found some good information on http://www.sportrider.com and have just been practising looking ahead more instead of looking at that kerb I am kind of running wide for! it is like if you look at the kerb you are worried about you will sub conciously AIM for it! so now I like to hang an as$ cheek off the side I want to steer and dip my shoulder in to get that lean happening but I still get a bit twitchy if I try to lean more, to lean over more I think I just push my upper body and head out a bit more :) I have 2 nice big roundabouts on a quiet stretch of road about 600 meters apart and I try to just get nice and comfortable with the weight shifting and seeing around the corners it has helped me heaps I believe :D

There are heaps of good tips in the AMC year book like choosing your own braking points so if the bike in front stuffs up you dont go with him.

And countless others but i expect to get a few pearls of wisdom from the cornering and brakeing course on the 15th.

There is also this http://www.canyonstrafers.com/events/the_pace.htm that has been on the internet for years and got me really moving on the 250 through the hills, you will overcook it a few times into corners but as mick doohan says you learn at the limits and I havent tried it on the 600 yet but will give it a go after the picnic season is over.

I am making a real effort to keep telling myself to look up and through the corners... I noticed today going up Nebo that I wasn't doing it and had a shithouse time trying to keep a decent pace. As we came back down the mountain and back up Mt Mee, looking up and through made a huge difference...

I'm gonna put a "LOOK UP DICKHEAD" sticker on my bars as a reminder :?
