r.e. the ram air and crosswinds, guy that kinda was on here briefly (rendrag) said his early model zzr1100 had issues with crosswinds due to the ram air for some reason being placed only on the right side. You get a crosswind at just the right angle, and bam, you loose an insane quantity of power, the winds change again and wham, there it was again. Apparently it sometimes made taking corners, erm, "fun"
Go away for a while and look what happens...
WTF are you doing with that thing Strika...lovely bike and great model but bad bad bad idea. Cant ride it like it is (me aching back) and you cant be serious about chopping it up now surely (its a girl after all)!
I can track test it for you though...hey I'd even slow to the times you recommend.
Get the Z1000 .. you know you want it!

Just one more law and everyone will be safe.

Strika,
Just going to throw an idea out there
When you go naked you loose the ram air and putting just the tubes there looks sus' imho and its effectiveness without the scoop would be debatable. Not only that but the radiator looses its shroud too
My idea with the 12 (and I dont think I have seen it anywhere) is to go MX, go down to the wreckers with the bike and go through the pile until you get the "right" shape.
Cut the sucker down and put a couple of self tapers in.
Cut down the back of a couple of ice cream containers (or funnels, whatever) attach in side the shroud back to the ram air and seal the lot.
Neat, functional, unique and painted up should look factory and DAMN sweet...

Yeah, Other idea would be to make a custom headlight/bikini fairing, grab something like the airscoop off an older twelve (the one that sticks out all by itself like smittys bike). Modify that to fit your scoops. Would look quite nice i'd imagine with a nice modern squarish headlight to matchfrogzx12r wrote:Strika,

Yeah if you get a squarish headlight (nice and big for the 9 or 12) and the snout off a old twelve like the ones that look like they forgot to put it anywhere, and just whacked one in. Thent ook it somewhere for someone to make a little bikini fairing around the outside of it to match the style of the headlight and intergrate the snoutfrogzx12r wrote:Like the front of a Tuono but attached to the frame....hmmmm wicked idea Duane.....maye with the enduro type headlight swiveling above like a Ducati Multistrada....

the only way you can get it to run ok as a street fighter is to remove the tubes from the air box completely, and take off the ram air balance line that runs to the float chambers... perhaps put a little air filter on there?
they dont run bigger jets to allow for the ram air at higher speeds, they just increase the fuel pressure...
when ive worked on my carbs and forget to put the balance line back on the bike starts spluttering and surging like a mofo from about 40kph

The frame and swingarm look great Phil. But the ram air tubes hanging out of the frame like that look dingo! I reckon its going have to have a bikini fairing of sum sort, possibly TZ or RS GP uppers, mounted to the frame not the forks. Then i could run a type of ram air inlet under it and tubes within it.
