I know someone on a 636 that did 278. They ran out of road and had to back off. Yes the shift light was on, but that's an advisory thingie with no more gears.
Not sure how accurate the speedo is, but being a later model you would think it was close. ?
Oh and they were with other like minded people, who can confirm it too.

Remember that Aussie spedo's have to be accurate to within 10%
this means that while it COULD be reading your exact speed, even with a new speedo you could be + or - 10% of your indicated speed.
so for 270km/h indicated, thats anywhere from 243km/h to 297km/h
To farking fast for our roads anyway.
mmmmmmm track days.

On my ZZR600 (2002 model) I saw the needle hit 240kmh - the GPS recorded 237kmh and there was more in the reserve. On my Honda CB250 I went off the dial @130Kmh+ (down the hill ofcourse)

An ADR of 10% didn't stop Slapper Tax Bracks giving us speeding limits tighter than that.

well i've had the zzr250 up to 166 on the speedo... no it wasn't on the special black salt flats near dreamworld... and no i didn't get about that much on the way to somerset dam either
there was still a little bit more left, but it creeps up really slowly and things start approaching too fast
i'm guessing that going downhill with a tailwind it would prolly max out at 175-180ish on the speedo. then the motor would prolly blow up as a sign of saying thank you

i loved that bike . took the hero knobs off the pegs on both sides . man 250s can go round corners
