The way I rode mate, it souldn't be too long!
But here's a coupe of hints and tips to help you along.
1. Wankers ride down to Church St to hang out & piss in each others pockets about what their bike can do. No doubts their bikes can do it, but they can't!
2. Protective gear is a must mate. I squid occasionally too. Like when I have to slip down to grab some milk and it's 40 degrees. Otherwise, I have summer gear which is ventilated and has armour. If it's less than hot, then it's leathers always.
3. Riding to Church st/Norton St or any around town rides are for tossers who can't ride and don;t want to learn. If you want to REALLY learn to ride a bike, hook up with the guys on the old rd on a Sunday and start watching and learning. It's going to blow your mind when one of the faster guys goes around the outside of you on a turn with one hand on the bars and his middle finger sticking up at you, then pulls a stand exiting the turn and backs it into the next. It's then you will realise how crap you really are. Hopefully, you will learn this soon and go get some training of some sort.
4. Every time you can think of justifying some money for a new pipe/sticker/screen/mirror/cowling or whatever, go spend it on a track/training day. No point improving the performance of your 250. Even if you spent 5 grand on that motor, it wouldn't have enough power to pull a sailor off your sister. So best you spend it on learning to ride properly.
5. Very few 'Homies" in here 'Bro" so that sort of talk will usually have everyone taking the piss. Not saying you can't, just be prepared for the influx of pisstakes
6. Remember this is the internet and 99% of what is in here is bullshit. Oh.... unless you are reading Seiko's posts, then it's 100%!

thanks for the tips mate going to invest in one of those advanced rider training programs down at clyde upright motorcycles
i don't really want to mod the bike for any sort of performance increase i just want it be as loud as it is sexy hence the growler exhaust which unfortunately i can't even get due to the attention it will attract from the pigs, already have a colorful history in that department don't need it getting any more colorful
quick question
are there any exhausts that sound great (not looking for performance) and still legal to use?
cheers

Refer to point 4! I can see you're not the brightest crayon in the box and I am gunna have to spell this out to you slowly and repeatedly! Spend the money on ride/training days. Just stop kidding yourself, your 250 sounds shit regardless what exhaust is on it........... OK.
Have you done your insurance yet? It's been two days and takes 30 minutes on the phone and a credit card. Bought gear yet? You would probably still have enough time after you finish school to get there before they close. What time does Kindy get out these days?

It doesn't even need a credit card, they will dive you a cover note over the phone and you have 2 weeks or something to pay and you're covered the whole time

Stayupright are good coarses, but if your planning on doing track days then start with level 1. at CSS. It's a bit more expensive, but more suited to track day tuition, than the stayupright coarse.

well was thinking of maybe doing a 1000 km ride don't know where just long as its out of Sydney somewhere all though don't have a GPS don't know much in Sydney (on the roads anyways) so i am pretty much fucked was thinking of doing this ride with a mate he has driven to QLD a couple of times so i suppose the roads shouldn't be good unless its all straights

(forgot to mention i want to do all this riding in 1 day as I've got a shift early morning and the evening
got a few concerns about this with the bike some of them are over heating?, servo stations, out of NSW i assume other states have different laws, cops hiding in the bushes trying to snag themselves money for the next box of donuts,
or maybe im way in over my head? any tips, advice in regards to this will be appreciated and please keep it serious as this is somewhat of a serious thing i plan to do sometime next week if i have the time
@ smithy5 - thanks for the info but will stick to the advance course for the roads for now as im yet to get into possession of a sports bike

Honestly, you're out of your depth.
1000km ride is a big one.
Got a compass? Head west until lithgow, full up with fuel, head back.
Start small.

I've only ever sat on a 2fiddy and just from that I'd hate to be sitting on one for 1000k's in a day.

The only thing wrong with sitting on a 2fiddy for a thousand kays would be listening to it revving its tits off.
Wattie has it. Ride somewhere, fill tank, ride home. You don't start with a number and try to fit your ride around it. Well, some of us do, but you don't have the maturity for that.
