Id have to have yz450 to go the factory Yamaha kit, also i think it has to be 09- present... I'll have to do some investigationing

Unless you get a KTM, you will never stop the bike without the good brake caliper and and lines.

The KTM's have brembo calipers standard. and then upgraded with abigger disc and relocating bracket they work well. but not in the same ballpark as my Beringer caliper. or franks for that matter (i have 4 piston, franks has 6)
with a yz, wr, klx, kx, rm, cr etc brakes are not the same.

The Redding kit includes the following:
Front wheel: special hub and spokes with 3.5 x 17in rim
Rear wheel: special hub (with cush drive) and spokes with 5.0 x 17in rim
Set Dunlop Alpha 12 production racing tyres with tubes
Supermoto front guard
Crash knob set (fr axle, rear axle and footpegs)
320mm Front brake kit ( 320mm wave disc, Brembo 4 piston caliper,
Brembo racing master cylinder, braided steel front brake line, custom caliper
carrier bracket)
Sprocket set: 15t front, 40 and 45t rear
Handguard set
Fluid Overflow bottle

Kit price (full kit, suits 2010 and 2011 YZ450F models) = $2600 RRP inc GST

Thats a Pretty good deal. and if Redding does as Phil mentioned, will do it for most makes, you are on fire!

now seperate note, KTM 450's 08 onwards have a 4 speed gearbox. which could be quite beneficial once geared up, les you will loos out a little on the start, but you will have nice continious pull out of bends. Single cyl thumpers have great tour and linear power. so something to consider also.

there is 08+ KTM's on ebay for under 5grand at times. with very little mods to do to get running. 8)

but thats enough of my Pro KTM motard rattle.
see above and also another thread, john told phil a little mistruth, all yamaha will do for you if you have another brand is send you a list of suppliers... the supplier they name for wheels, charges 2K and thats before tyres and tube...

no way in the world i could afford to buy a '10 model yzf450 and then spend 2600 upgrading it... id be better off buying an 05 for 4500 and spending 3k doing it up...

yamaha have done a good job on the marketing, sure they're offering a sweet deal on the wheel kit, but only for two year models of bike, which we all know is the same model anyway...so unless you're going into a yamaha dealership and buying a brand new bike, they wont help you ;)

if i want to do this im going to have to make compromises somewhere...

and phil, dont need to find the paperwork, its 10-11 models only as it states on the website, which is where wattie got his info from...

If it's an FX series I'm sure nobody is surprised it revolve's around Yamaha and the newer model's for sale's purposes...Ducati won an FX SBK round once didn't they and then got kicked out

Ducati made a mistake in cheating.

Not that they cheated but the fact that they made it obvious enough to Yamaha to get caught

It's been a long time since I've had anything to do with dirt bikes so excuse my ignorance, but when did 450 dirt bikes only have four gears? Are the other brands like this as well?

Nah just the KTM 450. Wide ratio racing gearbox. You do tend to get the more bling bits on the Euro bikes e.g. Brembo's , WP Suspension

I'd suggest a close ratio 5 speed box would be much better for motard in a 450 than a 4 speed..

and so do KTM.. :-)
The 08 SMR had a 5 speed.
http://www.topspeed.com/motorcycles/mot ... 50753.html

They ran a 6 speed in the smr from 04 I believe..
http://motors-bay.com/ktm/266-ktm-450-smr.html

The current KTM EXC 450 has a 6 speed box and SX 450 has a 5 speed (no smr anymore.? ).

I'd say if they still made the SMR it would be based on the EXC with a 6 speed.?..

No 'R' 'Race' models allowed in FX. So that cancels out the SMR.

After riding the KTM450 SX I actually dont think it would be that bad.
