Re: evolution of a postie
The look's growing on me - but I'm not sure my back could handle the position.
We'll see - it's a keeper for the list of possibilities.

Re: evolution of a postie
Maybe some low-rise chookie/off-road bars are a good middle way...

Re: evolution of a postie
Well - I tried to do a bit more today, tried fitting the podfilter.
Very disappointed as it basically failed - got it fitted all right, but the postie ran like a dog.
I had to put the original airbox system back on
Here's the details of the day's efforts anyway...
Excuse the JetPilot sticker if it offends you
It was on the bike when I got it.
This is the original intake system (airbox) that I was ultimately trying to get rid of...

This is the carb-end of that (after removing the centre frame plastic) where the pod-filter will go...

And just for reference for anyone else interested, this pic highlights where the mounts for the airbox are...
Excuse my attempts at circles using a trackpad

Now for the interesting shots.
Fitting the pod was, of course, just a simple matter of slipping it on once I'd gotten the orginal system out of the way.
Here's a shot of the airbox area with the pod fitted...

A full bike shot (haven't fitted the centre frame plastic back on yet)...

...and with the plastic back on...

Just for fun I thought I'd see what the bike looked like without the rack too.
It won't be going rackless (at least yet) as it's too useful...

I like the look with the pod, and I think I like the look without the plastic and rack too. But the plastic hides the wiring and the rack's useful.
As I said though the bike ran crap with the new filter, so it's all back to original (see http://s170.photobucket.com/albums/u250 ... before.jpg)
I guess it needs to be rejetted.
Anyone know for sure? I'm still ignorant of these things, but it makes some sense.
I guess I'm finally going to have to learn how to work on a carby. I know everyone says they're easy, but like most things can be a little daunting until you try. So the pod's on the shelf for some other day.
Very disappointed.
Though it was louder with the pod, which may not be the best thing for a 6am start with a sleeping bub.
The observant may also note that the rego label's now in a rego tube
The next update probably won't be for another month or so.

OK - while I do not support this blinging up the postie crap
I reckon it looks better without the rack.
Nothing wrong with humpback snails!

looks cruiser-ish without the rack - but now that you mentioned a snail the image has stuck.
I HAVE to bling up the postie Cath - gotta do something

Those mirrors do look good
And the pedals might help on the uphill sections

Re: evolution of a postie
A response on the postie bikes group confirms I need a new main jet - probably 1 or 2 sizes bigger.ty wrote:I guess it needs to be rejetted.

Re: evolution of a postie
I think I've got a set of chooky bars in the garage that are laying around gathering dust. I'll try and find them and you can see what they're like.
Rejetting would be the go, if you can find the size that you need you can just drill out the main jet that's in it now.

Showing my ignorance again - is that hard? Are new jets that expensive that drilling the current is the best option?Glen wrote:Rejetting would be the go, if you can find the size that you need you can just drill out the main jet that's in it now.
I'd have thought that I'd need to get the jets to find the right one wouldn't I?
(plus I couldn't go back to original if I happened to stuff the whole thing up

Re: evolution of a postie
Drilling them out is pretty easy, you just screw the old main jet out, stick it on a bench and drill through the too small hole. We used to do it with the dirt bikes regularly. Safest option though is probably to buy a couple of sizes then you can fiddle with them. Can you take a photo of the spares guy's face when you tell him you want a jet kit for postiety wrote:Showing my ignorance again - is that hard? Only found these so far:Wattie wrote:... and rearsets![]()

a bit pricey for now at $230, considering that doesn't include the pegs themselves (at $80 a pair)
