A little update. I wondered why my ribs and back were so sore but I thought I was just being a bit of a sook. I couldn't lie on my sides or front, or breath too deep and coughing or sneezing was just plain fucked, so I went and got a bone scan done to see what was wrong. Turns out I broke 6 ribs with two of them being broken in a couple of spots. Because the ribs weren't as bad as the rest of the damage we hadn't paid much attention to them.

Everything is improving slowly but I think it will be swollen for a very long time. The surgeon told me today it's not worth aspirating it and to just wait until it heals and gets re-absorbed. He also said he doesn't believe in physio and to never get back on a bike again so it might be time to see another doctor. :D I can't fit into jeans yet due to my big fat swollen arse so leathers will be out of the question for quite a while. :x

Sadly the bike has been written off but the good news is the insurance is just about ready to come to a decision for a payout figure (it's been delayed because the price of Shoei helmets went up $100 in the last couple of weeks) so not long now before I get to go shopping for a new steed. Time to test ride a rex. :kuda:

As much as I don't want the title, I hope no-one else gets it. Would be sad to see anyone else go through this or worse.

Definitely time to get another doctor mate. Dave had a similar thing happen. He went to a new doc, got some physio and can now straighten his arm, whereas the original doctor figured having a bent arm was no big deal. Seriously - your health and body functionality is worth lots of money - get another doc!

And sorry to hear your injury list is increasing :( I hope the ribs don't give you too much grief. At least you know now, so you can try to avoid things. I can't believe they never told you - that's such utter crap.

I agree with Cath. Lose the doc and get a physio, whether previus doc believes in em or not it won't do any harm..

Sorry to hear about the off mate but get well soon. As for the ribs, the bruise must hurt like hell not to notice that you had busted 6 ribs.

Good to see your on the mend :kuda: , i sort of know how your feeling  .

Also good to see you havent taken a head knock though - still thinking clearly, a ZRX might fit a better then the Z, just that little bit longer.

Feel free to come and have a go on mine before hand, that way you can go with the shopping list of required items ;)

In fact, there may even be one on the market soon if the current owner decides to study oragami

Thanks for the offer Phil, I might just have to take you up on it.

Thanks again to everyone for their well wishes. I have to keep things in perspective and remind myself how lucky I am and not allow myself to become impatient with all of this, but I am sick of being busted and just want to get back on a bike and go for a ride.

Hi Nelso!

Great to meet you mate, I had no idea you'd come up from the Gong.... I HAD to split anyways. Hope the recovery is quick and there's no more complications.

I agree with the others, def. get more opinions on treatment, and decide for yourself what works and what doesn't, sometimes it's surprising.

I'm just waiting for a HTFU from uncle chop chop.

No physio? What a load of crap! Get yourself a new doc and some physio, which will be especially important for your lung function, being that you are restricting your deep breathing and coughing.

I had already started with physio straight after the op. We had started with my shoulder first and have just recently moved onto my back and hip while continuing treatment on my shoulder.

I have a small gym studio at the back of a mates physio where I train people (his room, my equipment and we share the set up) so I have been in close contact with a physio the whole time, in fact it was him that first started me in the process that led to the op (they are also the Dragon's physio so they have good connections and know their stuff).

I worked as a head trainer for a first grade football team for about 10 years and the Steelers for a couple of years so i have a good connection with medical personnel in this area and have been well looked after. I have been in constant contact with a chiropractor as well as a physio and a sports physician and was checked out by the Dragons doctor as well.

We contacted the surgeon because he is an orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in hips (and used to work on backs) and was the most likely to operate in my situation where plenty of others would not have. He is quite good with a knife but is a bit old school, hence the comment re physios. He only ordered the bone scan after I asked for more scans/x-rays to be done after I had discussed my recovery with my chiropractor. He does not believe in chiropractors either so I did not mention this discussion at the time I brought the topic up with him. ;)

My comment was more tongue in cheek as he also told me never to ride a bike again as well as the strange physio comment. He had served his purpose and I was always going to continue with treatment my way, but thanks everyone for your concerns and advice. It is appreciated. :kuda:

As for the late night phone calls. That's another post altogether.
