mr scott charlton - 2007 naked bike champ and mr jon cartwright - 2005 & 2006 naked bike champ.

I have to admit i like them too although i prefer the fully naked one. there has been one down the hill on a few sundays recently with a taaasty pipe on it as well.
and all things aside i didnt notice the cold much more in winter on the zrx, when you have proper clothing - as i know you do - it should be OK

Problem is Mick, if I don't change my bike, I'll have to upgrade the wife, or the car, or the wife's car! So the bike is cheaper!

Nah Mick...I'm a bike slut! I think I need a change. It's probably one i'll regret if I sell the 9, but I need something new to get excited over. If I have enough cash at the time, I'll only trade the failing marshmallow and still keep the 9. I do lurve the thing so that's why I am having trouble deciding. The thing is while motors are easy to replace, it's the reliability factor of other things like starters, regulators, Stators TP sensors, bushes and bearings which is the reason I am looking again.
I even had another look at the ZRX today. But the no wind protection thing will bug me halfway through winter.
I also went and had a look at the Yamaha FZS1000 today. It's a tasty bit of kit. Light, nice chassis, good clearance, good brakes, nice motor and a comfy ride postion with what appears to be adequate wind protection. Anyone know someone with one? Any idea of fuel range?

If you buy the Yam it'll last about half as long as the Hornet did. Similar riding position, similar detuned motor to bore you and aimed at the same market but with lower build quality.
If you fancy a trip to QLD...

What drugs are you on Mike???

Been drinking or sumfink???

The fecking thing has 150 at the crank and the Hornet has 110!!! It weighs loads less than the Hornet, has an aluminium beam frame not a steel spine frame, upside down forks and monoblock calipers and, If you took the time to actually look at one, you may see, from as far as 20 feet away, that the Hornet is a bucket of puss in terms of quality and finish. The Yamaha is streets in front of the Hornet in all respects at the moment!

I'm on the I used to own one of the FZS1000's ancestors drugs. See, the trend of taking the flag ship sports bike and making a semi naked/naked 'cruiser' is not a new one (I know I'm preaching to the queer - er - choir, but I'll plough on regardless

). Way before Spewie released the Bandit, Yamahahaha were making detuned versions of the FZ750. Almost every bolt was made of a mild steel chocolate and the suspenders were shite but the 20 valve motor was a pearl. It's like they went, "we've got this state of the art bike, how do we sell a bucket loads of cheap bike off the back of it", and found every possible way to make it cheap. I don't see that anything has changed, it's just that beam frames and upside down forks are no longer new technology.

Then you best go have a look at a new FZ1N/FZ1000S. Nothing OLD SPEC about them now. The only things which are common are brakes and wheels! (Not including lights, elecs Starters etc.,!) The rest of it is unique! So I can hardly see how they have followed the theme you speak of in the 1987-1990 FZ's!!!

Go the REX the no protection thing is not an issue summer or winter. With the money you save over the spammy you can get it all blinged up real good check ZRXOA website, or Phil's REX

,plus you will be still lean and GREEN

and I offer this recommendation with no bias whatsoever

Undoubtably and unbiased opinion!!

I know you say the lack of fairing isn't an issue, but after 1000klms with a full Helmet windblast, the head starts to ring, quiet helmet, ear plugs or not!!

So, I think I need a fairing more than want one! The standard screen on the Fizzer isn't much better than the little screen on the REX from all reports, but the Yamaha touring screen option is a ripper for those under 6' tall from owner reports I have read. (fark google comes up with some unusual shit doen't it!!)

Why are you agonising over what bike you're going to buy for so long? You know you'll just trade it again soon anyway

Mick C wrote:Why are you agonising over what bike you're going to buy for so long? You know you'll just trade it again soon anyway

Yes Mick, being an avid bike slut, it's a slight possibility!

But I have kept the 9 for 16 months!!!

That's over a year!!!

I think my previous best (not including the race bike which I've owned on and off for a while now) is 12 months and 17,000klms. That was on the 05 636.
I had a look at the Z's today too. But the lack of fairing is even more pronounced than the Rex is and the seat is ROCK HARD! I jumped on a Versys too. It's a pity the yare ugly....and wouldn't pull your brother off your sister

So if you were given a choice to get just one bike from the past -- which is it? The 05 ZX6R ?

Yeah Andi...bit of a soft spot for the 05 636. But 20+ years of falling off muddaboiks has determined that it would only ever be a track tool! So it counts it out as a one only bike! I need something more UJM methinks!
