Theres a tank "fix" of some sorts where you put some resin type stuff all through the inside of the tank and it seals the rust in the gel, voila, no more rust in fuel filter...

Also have you considered replacing the brake pads and bleeding the front brake? That may help a bit with the level of "bite" that the bike has. Though i know what you mean about the12m/50km/h thing....

Hell dude, see that el250 i posted in the beginning of the thread? that photo was taken somewhere in n/e victoria in a motel halfway on the way down on a trip from sydney to Phillip Island. It made it there and back in once peice. But that service that was "kinda getting close to due" was needed pretty effing badly by the time i got back to sydney from cowes.

yeah i know about the fuel tank sealant kits.. dammed expensive but worth it if a new tank costs heaps more than the kit.. i prefer to get a new or newish fuel tank..

in rgs to the front brakes.. reason it takes so dam effing long to stop is that the front brake is a cable not hydrolic.. just pull said lever and a spring does the work.. sigh.. i was thinking of having the front brake replaced with a hydrolic setup.. it would be the wisest thing to do..

hmm.. based on what you just posted it seems that its a do-able trip if one is patient enough.. lets see.. lithgow to bribie island and return.. hmm.. about 2200 - 2300 kms.. sounds interesting.. :lol:

Cable brakes? Far out!

I wonder if there is a way to use brakes/forks from something else? This is the sort of stuff I'd like to play with if I actually owned one...

i was looking into trying out a different brake system from another (same age-ish) bike tho i am not too optimistic about it..

anyone have any suggestions? or better yet a different different system just collecting dust in a shed somewhere?..

Nah, not with out seeing it, and then I reckon it might be a bit of digging around to find out what else would fit...I wonder how CB250 forks/brakes would go? Or something like that?

Thats a SMALL front disc!!! if you wanted to mount another brake caliper on the same disc you could technically make up a mount converter if you couldnt find a caliper that would fit on this one.

But looking at the size of it, if i couldnt find the right sized caliper 'd either
a) find out the diameter in MM of the front forks tubes (where they are in the triple clamp), and try and get hold of a set of forks and front wheel that are off a disc braked bike.

b) try and find a disc that'll mount on that wheel and make a mount converter to take a new brake caliper.

of the two option a) would be easier, more sound engineering wise. But more expensive, unless you bought an old shitter just for the front forks and trashed the rest of the bike (or made the remains into a go-kart :twisted:)

R.e. master cylinder, well whatever fits, one off a cb250 would do plenty well if it was a single piston brake caliper.

here are a few pix of herself and her machine..:-]

just checked out the review.. that bloke was flogging the z200 at 85 MPH the speedo that i have says its top speed is only 120 KMS.. no wonder the machine was crapping itself..

i have had vix bike running around 80-90 kms for an extended length and it didnt have any of the drama that the bloke who wrote that review was having.. then again i think he bought a real piece of rust on two wheels..:-]

the wreckers in the uk that the other link refers to is a bit expensive.. sheesh.. i did a tally of all the he had available and it comes to a grand total of over 1000 pounds.. about 2.6 k oz.. i am glad i dont live in the uk.. that place seems a real expensive place to stay..

seriously tho.. the bike didnt look too good when i first got it.. now all i gotta do is repaint it.. you aint gunna belive this but vix wants it painted hot pink.. ermm.. and thats the bike she wants go do a round trip to queensland and back on.. :shock:

Hot pink? No...

But I could imagine it some kind of metalic candy red type of colour...especially with the chrome...mmmm....that'd look tops!

theres some nice colour tones in there.. we have had a sniff through all the coluor tones and she who must be obeyed is trying to make up her mind as to what she wants.. :-]

There was a site, or is a site, from one of the paint manufacturers and they had some really wild paints, along with some photos of bikes that were painted with them...wish I knew where it was....?

looking around that site i think its what has been done in the USA.. no doubt that they have some really ace style paint jobs .. i dribbled over the midnight blue with blue flames on the bike.. i am tempted to try to do a similar paintjob on my ride..
