After not readin the whole thread, i'm with Gos! Yes we do need to be seen but the vests are not the only way. Maybe piping on leathers yes, rim stickers yes but come on poxy vests. learners doing training fair enough, the instructor needs to know who they are watching ect. just think 6 in a class happen to pull up at a set of lights with 6 others in vests! who the hell does he watch when they split and go their own way!
Vests are not the way to go. If a rider needs in to feel safe that rider has issues they need to address and drivers need to re-do their training, remember the head check you got failed if you didn't do it!!!

Two weeks ago I had a twat start a u-turn in front of me while I was turning at a moderate speed around a suburban 90 degree corner. I lowsided and he reckons it was all of my own accord. Grrrr. Lights on (I have no choice), indicator on, my yellow pirelli jacket and sunshine. Wasn't enough. "Sorry I didn't see you". I replied "yeah, that's the usual story".
Gosling, at first I thought you're being bloody intolerant, but I can certainly see your point about the danger of being visible becoming our responsibility.

...and therein lies the fallacy of the safety benefit of headlights, dayglo vests, bikes of a certain colour.
If the aforementioned bird in a Hyundai is applying her makeup and sending an SMS while driving, she, by implication,
is not watching the road, is she?
How are you supposed to make yourself more visible to someone who isn't looking in your direction to begin with?

If she's already applying makeup and SMS'ing while driving, chances are she's got the windows wound up and she's blaring Robbie Williams real loud.

Well, you can always do what I do... ride around like a spreekiller fleeing pursuing police *everywhere*. They tend to not only notice, but get out of the way, too, if you're riding like you'd be the sort of person who'd put a fist through their window and strangle them with their own seatbelt if they got closer than you'd appreciate... ok, so that might be a bit easier for people of my, or Dave #3's, or Mick C's stature to pull off.

I'm suprised you lot aren't pushing the Politicians to legislate that only Dayglo green motorcycles should be ridden!
Paul on a Matt Black 749 with black/grey leathers! the only bright thing I have is the wheels of my track bike!

When I used to indulge myself with the random (weekly) spot of road rage, if I heard this comment, my immediate vent to the driver was ".....thats because you weren't looking, DICKHEAD !!!"......
....Gosling, at first I thought you're being bloody intolerant, but I can certainly see your point about the danger of being visible becoming our responsibility.
thanks - that was the main point of my rant. That, and the possibility of Hi-vis vests being a mandatory requirement. There are some pommie pollies who are trying to push this legislation as we speak. Thank god we don't have their archaic tax-enforcement rules for registration either.....
Mario - Loud Pipes Save Lives. Its true. Air-horns are also good

I have a set of Fiamm electronic air horns to be fitted to the MFP12, jesus H they are L-O-U-D ...

- you can just about see pedestrians shit their pants at 5 metres
