Gos check with most Workshop managers and they will confirm that at first oil change they use a synthetic based oil.Gosling1 wrote:well, no they won't. Any dealer that did that to a new motor would be a total prick.Neilp wrote:The servicing dept will put synthetic oil in your bike at the first oil change, if the rings arent bedded in by the 1000 k service they arent going to.

Its not just a matter of the rings bedding in, its the entire motor/gearbox that needs to be considered. The rings are just a small (though important) part of the bigger picture. The gearbox certainly won't have 'bedded-in' by the first service at 1000km.........
I got some advice about my 12 (well after it was needed), by a bloke who has owned quite a few new bikes over the years......
His advice was - Ride the bike home from the dealer, and *Immediately* dump the original oil and filter, replace with new filter and same oil that dealer will use at first service (1000km).
Ride 3-400km, then dump this oil, and replace as above.
Then take bike into dealer for its *first* service......all the above advice assumes that you intend to keep your new bike for some considerable time, not just until upgrade time, in which case do everything as cheaply as possible........
Yeah it is only semi but motul like you to think its fullGosling1 wrote:are you sure ? I went out to the shed to check my top-up bottle of Motul 5100, and it says Full Synthetic ??tanyathecheeky wrote:Semi, it's what they use in 90% of the bikes

I will check that tomorrow. I am *100%* sure that they didn't go to a semi-synth until the 6k service.........check with most Workshop managers and they will confirm that at first oil change they use a synthetic based oil.
