well, no they won't. Any dealer that did that to a new motor would be a total prick.

Its not just a matter of the rings bedding in, its the entire motor/gearbox that needs to be considered. The rings are just a small (though important) part of the bigger picture. The gearbox certainly won't have 'bedded-in' by the first service at 1000km.........

I got some advice about my 12 (well after it was needed  ), by a bloke who has owned quite a few new bikes over the years......

His advice was - Ride the bike home from the dealer, and *Immediately* dump the original oil and filter, replace with new filter and same oil that dealer will use at first service (1000km).

Ride 3-400km, then dump this oil, and replace as above.

Then take bike into dealer for its *first* service......all the above advice assumes that you intend to keep your new bike for some considerable time, not just until upgrade time, in which case do everything as cheaply as possible........

Gos check with most Workshop managers and they will confirm that at first oil change they use a synthetic based oil.

I will check that tomorrow. I am *100%* sure that they didn't go to a semi-synth until the 6k service..... :?

not in my bike they wouldnt!!

i was always told...
mineral til 6k minimum...
semi til 12k
after 12k put what u like...

my local dealer use to wait til i got there until he put the oil in it...cos if he didnt i wouldnt pay....

when i got my bike done last time i gave em the 5100 Motul (off the shelf) to put in it..when i went to pick it up they hadnt charged me for it...i demanded they drop the shell oil out of it then and there , and put my motul in it.... which they promptly did after i called the owner....
