It's estimated that road fatalities cost approximatley 1.6 million dollars per death.
Yes, that is bullshit government inflated prices...
I bet the real cost is more around the $30,000 mark....
Even that seems expensive.... They would have factored in "time lost because motorists are stuck in traffic" and "Government department charging another government department overinflated prices" and stuff like that.... Damage to public property (paid by insurance companies), damage to vehicles (paid by insurance companies) etc etc etc etc etc.........

You don't think insurance companies paying out money costs the community in the long term? Ever wondered why your premiums always seem to go up?
I'm sure there is a heap of stuff that needs to be factored in that we simply would never think about.
I don't think for a minute that $30,000 is anywhere near the mark.

Yeah ther has to be a number between the 2 no way each death costs1.6 million

As true politicians the true cost and the methods to work the cost out will never be revieled

The bottom line is the governments dont want to train enough police to do the job,or pay them a camera is much cheaper and more profitable,no sickies super leave

And while they avoide the real fix police and better roads we will continue to hear of all the bad naughty girls and boys out there are destroying the world by doin 20 ks over and its all there fault, but the cameras will fix all the problems BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT

I just find it somewhat annoying that the *only* solution that we keep coming up with to reduce road fatalities/injury is to reduce speed.
Also for those who doubt the $1.7million (savings figure per single reduction in fatality), go here ->
http://casr.adelaide.edu.au/reports/CASR009.pdf
As much as it's easy to wave hands and say that academics are bit silly sometimes I can definitely tell you they have a better idea how to do those numbers than most ppl here do

It wasn't the government or politicians that came up with the numbers - if ya *really* (and i doubt you do) need to know more than what that link up there provides you with I'm sure you (or I) could get a copy of the full report and study no dramas.
(end of smoke and mirrors/conspiracy talk I hope!)

*nods*
read the other studies on that page for more info on what is being researched and then totally ignored by the government as it is apparently 'too costly' to implement.

i realise 19ppl have died...and its not sour grapes cos i didnt get caught... and uve told me before the cost of rehab etc, so i see ur point Jase...
BUT...how did the camera that caught all these ppl and cost em $$$$$ slow them down?? apparently one guy got caught 2 or 3 times (lapping)...
now wouldnt it of been more likely for say..a Mr Plod in a car or on a bike cruising up and down that patch of road??
sure its not gunna make much $$...but i reckon it would have more of an effect of slowing ppl down...
it doesnt slow u down when u dont kno ur getting fined...

Sure, it would slow them down whilst the copper is there. But then they just find somewhere else to ride or wait until the copper is gone.
Hidden cameras do work. They've had a story about them in the paper on the news etc, so people know they're out there. If you don't know where they are going to be, then you're more likely to ride slower everywhere.
If you don't and you get caught. Stiff shit.
At the end of the day, you know if you're over the speed limit. You know if you're 10 kays over. If you don't, get the fuck off the road and catch a bus. If you get pinched at 3 or 4 kays over, then that's a bit harsh, but if you don't like it, move out of Victoria.

Why do we care so much about motorcyclists offing themselves though ?
Shouldn't we be more worried about people who aren't trying to kill themselves ? Hidden speed cameras won't educate them at all.
