Head shaking 06 ??? Did you remove your steering damper? Head shaking 12 that I'd believe as I'm ready to put a steering damper on mine.

Ross,
From what i understand, the 06 did get a lot of headshake. They didn' t come with a dampner but everyone put one in.............
maybe you're just not going fast enough

Plas didnt..and hes plenty quick... mind u he had Hoey set his up...nuf said...
dampers can be a band -aid solution for those who havent set the susp up properly...i learnt that thru here.. when i got my cbr it was gunna be the first thing i did after a few laps of the nasho...the thing was bucking like a pig..then Phil said "why dont u set the suspension up properly ya dill" ??
so i had it tinkered with...and never needed a damper...
before spending $600+ on a damper..spend next to nothing gettin ur susp set up good

Neka, it doesn't matter what you ride, if you are a throttle jockey they all slap!

You certainly do not need a steering damper on a 12R if your suspension sags are set right and you havnt raised the forks or shimmed the rear shock. even stock out of the box the 12 doesnt need it. They are a forgiving bike in some aspects and perhaps more confidence inspiring to ride than a 10 but they truely are a beast if in fact you can ride it to its full potential

The Crim's biggest problem were the tyres that came stock on them...those 218's were crap, and allegedly the main cause of the instability being reported when they came out. I rode mine for a while with them on and no steering dampener without any stability problems, but they were chewed up so quick I replaced them with the Pilot Powers from the race kit fairly soon anyway.
I ordered my steering dampener when I got the bike, so it took about a month before it was fitted and I've had it on ever since. Every other litre bike at the time had one stock, so I thought why not. I had it set where I was fairly happy, but have recently wound it right back because I felt it was a little bit sluggish changing direction. Feels much better now and haven't had any issues on some fairly average road surfaces. I've set my sag front and rear.
The only time I reckon I really needed it was hitting a bump at around 240km/h, still accelerating, with a full ventura on the back. The front got light and the bars started oscillating...I kept it pinned and they straightened up again, but I reckon they would've been going a lot quicker if it wasn't there.

Well if it only saves your arse once its money well spent
And echo on the D218's, grip was ok, but feel and wear rate were horrendous.

i havent ridden the 10 without it. i ride with it on one of the lowest settings.
its ok, never felt like i've needed it till i got the the track.
the front gets twitchy when your on the gas and still turning...
oh and changing into 5th gear down the chute the front pops ver so slightly making it wobble ever so slightly.
i dont mind the bike moving around, i kinda enjoy bumpy roads

for some reason.
maybe its the dirt rider in me.

I am not close to riding the MFP12 to its full potential, but it sure likes a jolly good thrashing

, and only *once* have I ever gotten a really serious headshake over a known piece of crappola local scratching road. This was when the bike was new, and the suspension hadn't been set properly.
Now it is set up a lot better than stock, but could probably use some more tweaking for the track.......
I have always regarded the 10's as being rather more 'flighty' under *duress* on bad/bumpy roads, but that is mainly due to the weight (or more correctly, the 'lack' of weight), compared to your common-or-garden sports barge

- the barge seems to cope with bumps, corrugations etc a little better, hardly surprising when you consider its anothe 40kg+ over the weight of a 10....
In any case, they are both great bikes, and no matter which one you ride, after a solid thrashing - riders of either will have a huge smile on their dial !!
WhoTF put this thread back on topic ?? Whats worse, I've RUN OUT OF MONKEY PORN !!!
