hmmm, I thought there was something *fishy* going on with your answer Smitty........
I voted for 2nd-hand 12, only on the basis that if anyone could scour the classies / bikepoint / e-bay and the local shop window for a really good 03/04/05 12R, with low kms, and then beat the seller down a grand or so, it would be you.
Good luck, they don't bite if you don't twist the throttle too hard, *reasonably* comfortable for a pillion, and mate, its a 12

........"....excuse me Sir, your R1 seems to have developed a missfire......later dude....."

Lucas wrote:Yes Smitty throttle is touchy but get use to that
and not very suburb friendly
but what new larger sportsbike really is
or dont you have to keep in 2nd or maybe 3rd to be at 60k
but have to agree that its hard to not speed
Um sorry, thats why us older fatter unwiser geezers like the 12 mate, soft as a sledge hammer if you want it to be. Really the throttle is not as spankin as the ten until ya get high up over say 3k rpm...

speed you say?
Thats relative to the coppers opinion and realisation which way you went

at my local Holden dealer ...and my Minister for War
and Finance were only concluded around 7pm last night
and he lost.....

I have to agree with Phil..I wonder at some ppls comments on the 916 on
family of Ducs.. ..they are really not worth the $..or the effort
Why is that Smitty ? I thought they are expensive for a reason (ohlins suspension, brembo, and such). Is it the engine ?

Andi
they are fragile
and even with the stuff like the Ohlins and Brembo brakes
imho, not good value for money...
they require constant maintenance
(stuff like timing belts get replaced every 20,000)
there is very little you can do yourself
(and don't even think about adjusting the desmo valves)
and
yes they handle not that well (they need a steering damper)
but brake good
however at a cost, they chew up pads and tyres like you would not believe
the new 916 I rode...stopped on me (It was a week old)
and have to be trailered back to my mates place
coz some electrical connection/bit had fried itself
the horror stories you hear about the Ducatis (and Alfas for that matter)
are true
a good 750 ( a ZX7r or Gixxer750) would make meat of one
on a ride thru Reefton or the Black Spur
hth
cheers
