Used to wear Arai's, then they changed shape and wouldn't fit on my scone, went to AGV's but they seem to have recently changed their shape/sizing and they no longer fit on my scone.

Shoei's never used to fit, Medium was too tight and large was too big, but now they're fine so I wear them. In terms of quietness/quality they seem really good, with much less wind noise then my AGV's. I also have a HJC which is a really good cheapy as well.

If I had the money I would go shoei, but I dont...

I started off with a HJC, because tht was what the budget allowed for at the time Then I went to an Arai, which I got for half price as it had sat on the shelves at City Yamaha for some time due to a dodgy graphics design. It was a pretty good helmet, a good fit, well ventilated, relatively quiet and comfortable. After about 2 years my head started to move around to much inside it, so I went and bought a Shoei TZ-R Ryu for $650. It is a much better fit that the Arai ever was, very comfortable & quiet, with great design, but it is not anywhere near as well ventilated, and until I put a demister shield on the inside of the visor, it would fog up badly.

shoei was my first on my second one now(akkident) diabolic II lurv it, misses has a shark. and my noggin doesn't agree with agv(but the uncle loves it)

My current one's an Arai. My next one probably won't be, due mainly to price.

I bought the current one because it fits so well and it was discounted heavily. It's a little noisy and the visor system is pathetic, but it's REAL comfy.

Shoei and HJC are the only ones I've found that come big enough. I had a HJC previously and though it was a great fit it was a little on the heavy side. The Shoei fits just as well but it lighter.

However the Shoei also reshapes my head a bit - I get helmet head rather than helmet hair. (the jokes are obvious people! ) So next time I might try some european brands, eg BMW/Nolan

Used to be an AGV buyer, but went the Shoei last time ( a TZ1 for $400 old stock & mates rates) Purely to get a Fiberglass Shell so i could get a paintjob Airbrushed on it to match "tiggr".
After reading that Snell vs DOT article posted here a coupla months ago, i'll be going cheap disposable helmets from now on. Think I'll follow THE DAVE's choice & try a Nitro.

More expensive doesnt necissarily mean better...

And it doesn't necessarily mean worse...

I read the Snell/DOT article and it was interesting but I've also read that different markets get different helmets and the States (where the article was written) definitely get different helmets to us. Is it still applicable? Maybe, maybe not. There's more to a helmet than just safety, like quality of materials, noise levels, weight etc. that all affect how comfortable you are when riding and as a result how safely you are riding.

Nitro, good price and fits the old head real good (read as does not wobble about at 1** kph) not too heavy and not too light as I said it fits just right.

I will probably get another KBC soon...




They just have some awesome graphics... and the specs on the VR3's are right up there with the top brands...

I've got a KBC TK8 head
