My frame ('99 zx9) would fit something between 20-30mm high (20mm probably better).
For length 170mm would keep it all on the flat section of frame, but it could fit up to 260mm across the slight bend.
So I think basically focus on the 20mm or so height, and then work out what length keeps the text looking good proportionally.
