If you fix the oil window will it be roadworthy without any further repairs? Miss Felix needs a bike y'know...cheaper the better (for me!).

I am such an opportunist...

All you do is get a couple of quotes from reasonable places and send a letter of demand to his insurance company....might be able to do it over the phone if its suncorp outlining that he ran over your bike while it was parked.
Might have to take it too a assesment center as well for a look and in the meantime patch it up so you have transport obviously you have plenty of photos.
they usually pay out on redbook values but in your case they probably will fix it, the reason they go for writeoffs is because when they writeoff someones bike they also cancel their insurance policy and keep tthe balance paid so it looks like this to them.
writen off bike(say 2000 at auction)+excess+balance of policy= what they retieve on a writeoff but in your case all they get is a zzr250 worth maybe 1500 to 2000 at auction.

Is that all brand new genuine parts or something?
How bad is the fairing? my exhaust is worse than yours, I'm guessing the fairings are too cos my bike slid down the road ... haven't gotten any quotes yet, I'm scared now
I'm taking it in to a place nearby tomorrow to get the fairing cracks welded, I'll get a quote for the cosmetic stuff and see what they say.
New genuine parts
Muffler RHS - $506.26
Lamp -Signal, REAR - $121.96
Stand-side, G.Gray - $71.75
Brake pedal & rubber - $147.96
Handlebar RHS - $46.60
Gauge, Oil level - $15.48
Cowling, upp red/rose - $917.17
Mirror-assy, LH rose - $144.29
Mirror-assy, RH rose - $144.29

I'm claiming his insurance.
What right do they have to take away my bike?
Are they allowed to do that?

thought it seemed a bit over the top, can the fairing be plastic welded and repainted and aftermarket mirrors? Probably save a 1000bucks that way.
I reckon theres more repairing of fairings goes on than you would think, when i had a job done on my 6 they where to replace the nosecone and side fairing but when i asked if i could have them back when they where finished as they where damaged and new ones where being fitted i was basicaly told to pissoff for want of a better word.
they either fixed the old ones and resold them or fitted them to my bike.

It'd be cheaper to buy another one with a seized/no motor...
Yeah, insurance quotes are always inflated...now go back and see what can be done by keeping the insurance out of it

You might find that it'll be less than the excess + the premium increase over the next couple of years. Cripes, you can save $500 just by living with a scratched can! I'd just get it reskinned in stainless or something like that, really...

Oh, and because the policy isn't on your bike, then they have no right to take it off you, but they could say "Heres some money if you hand the bike over, here is the pittance we will offer for repairs if you don't"...
The policy on your bike does, however, give them recourse to taking possesion of it, if you read the fine print, you'll find that you agreed to those terms when you signed the policy.

I've also asked the wreckers for quote. The cost is still about $600 or so. Considering that he need to repair damages on his car too, we decided that insurance is the way to go.

IF they can give me a sum (say $2k), I
might sell the ZZR and get a 600cc.
Anything is possible. But since nuthing is concrete, I cannot promise anything.

A guy from RACQ(his insurer) rang me. He asked me if I had inform my insurance company about the incident. I said 'nope'
I forgot to ask him... Am I suppose to inform my insurer? What for?
Anyone knows?

If you are claiming, then I would...basically it means that they have to deal with your insurance and not with you. Which can be an advantage. You can ring them and see what they say, just say he's a friend and he is looking after it, you trust him, blah blah blah...I don't think you have to do much more than just inform them. You don't actually have to proceed with a claim, but it could be handy if the other insurance tries to muck you about.

I'm not claiming from my insurance.
I'm claiming from his insurance(RACQ).
So why should my insurer get involved?
Shouldn't it be between me and RACQ?

No!
You don't have to claim, but if you at least notify your insurance then his insurance will at least know that you could claim.
our insurance will at least give you some legal advice and can advise on what is a fair settlement. Don't sign anything until you talk to them. Your insurance won't get narky or anything as you still aren't actually claiming, so they'd rather help you get a good settlement and provide a bit of advice. Just protect your own back a bit...

heya
RG,
i went through similar crap last year.
this is what i learnt;
because you are claiming against his insurance,
they don't have any right to take away your bike.
if
(stress if) you want to keep the bike,
only thing is, be careful if they want to declare it a 'Repairable Write-Off'.
if the [Repair Cost] is greater than (>) [Market Value] minus (-) the [Salvage Value],
then they would likely want to declare it as a 'Repairable Write-Off'.
that way they minimise there liability by giving you the
[Market Value] minus (-) the [Salvage Value] and you get to keep your bike.
presumedly they expect you to then sell the bike to a wrecker.
IF you want to keep the bike don't let them declare it a Write-Off.
what ever 'Dollar Value' they offer you make a counter offer of $100-$200 less,
so long as they agree NOT to declare it a Write-Off!
you may be able to repair the bike for much less than this,
if you are prepared to put up with some minor scratches.
then you get to pocket the difference.
if it becomes a 'Repairable Write-Off',
then you will be up for;
- cost of your own repairs
- Roadworthy
- VIV (Vehicle Identification Verification; $300) Certificate
(all this, just to ride your own bike!)
