This is quite revealing re: Snr Sgt Bill Gore ... 29/11/2011
http://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/images ... script.pdf
Page 6 ... "Mr LANGUILLER — In terms of off-road, you indicated to us that in the order of 70 per cent of road
trauma happens to be off-road. You would be aware that about 50 per cent of Victorian road trauma happens
off-road."
Page 8 ..... "Mr ELSBURY — Would you see any point in high-visibility gear, especially along the Hume. The Hume
would be the place where you have got the majority of your traffic moving at speed.
Sr Sgt GORE — Again we come down to rider attitude.
I do not wear hi-visibility on my own motorcycle, but if the law said I had to, I would have no issues with it. I wear high-visibility on my police
motorcycle. I have spoken to George Talbot. He runs the local motorcycle school here, and he says it is a
no-brainer. He lights himself up like a Christmas tree. Look, we had a fatality in Katamatite three weeks ago,
and that guy was in black on a black motorcycle at night; I do not think high visibility would have saved his life.
It was night-time. His headlight just fell into the streetlights at the back, and he rode into the side of a truck."

Good find Ron...
"Sr Sgt GORE — You would need to go to the traffic camera office for that, but I would say this: speed cameras were introduced in about 1993 or 1994, and the police proved the concept over five years. At that time we were killing about 700 people a year. Now we kill 230. Speed cameras work. For every life we save the community saves $1.5 million, so speed cameras make $1.5 million for every life they save."
It seems that he considers that the speed cameras are the only thing that has worked to reduce the road toll. If that is the case then once the number of speed cameras levels out the road toll should do as well.
It would be good to see the trend from 10 years before speed cameras to the present and also what other changes have taken place in that time that may contribute to the reduction...

Hmmm cars are a little safer since then. I'd much rather be in a crash in a current VE Commodore rather than a VP Commodore, or BG Falcon compared to an EB Falcon of that time....

.
I say leave the hi vis vests to the posties & bmw riders !

it then comes back to the female copper who did a u bolt over double yellow lines because she got the wrong donuts, killing a motorcyclist, and gets off scot free basically. The skill of driving has slowly been fading

slowly fading, its fallen of a fucken cliff!
5 years ago, an arse clenching moment happened once in a while
now it happens at least 5 time s in a commute to work; and that only 5 k's
the number of twats armed with 2 tonnes of cage, no idea and a fucken mobile fone is absolutely frightening!
if i had a dollar for the times i've either been almost cleaned up by arsehats in cages on phones, or had to knock on car windows in traffic to remind cagers of what they are supposed to be doing, i'd would be a millionaire!
